Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 06, 2010 3:44 pm Hi all this is my first post on this site, I have read through a lot of the kitchen threads and looked at the pics and have seen some fantastic kitchens! We are about to renovate our kitchen and I am having a colour dilemma so any opinions would be greatly appreciated. We have chosen white laminate cupboards and I would like white benchtops too but we have bought a 900mm black freestanding Blanco cooker which hubby thinks would look too out of place in a white kitchen. He would like black benchtops. We have polished timber floors in a dark reddish colour. Any suggestions for benchtops would be great. At the moment we are looking at the DiamondGloss or the Creastyle AR+ Thanks Re: Benchtop opinions please 2Sep 06, 2010 8:27 pm Nicnwic Any suggestions for benchtops would be great. At the moment we are looking at the DiamondGloss or the Creastyle AR+ Hi Nicnwic We have parchment laminate cupboards and the Creastyle benchtops in Grey artstone - its great, people think its stone until we tell them. (And it costs a lot less) There's a lot of greys and whites in it that would look good with your black stove. There's also a darker version called Anthracite. Very hard to keep streak and fingerprint free, and also showed up scratches (it was a textured black laminex). In our rental we have black diamond gloss laminex and it is also really hard to keep looking good (often looks streaky and dirty even after wiping). In our new house we have chosen a white caesarstone and I'm hoping that takes a lot less looking after. Re: Benchtop opinions please 4Sep 07, 2010 9:51 am I would never recommend a black benchtop. Mine showed every little bit of dust and every tiny little scratch all day long. I had to wipe it over every time I saw it, but it never looked any different afterwards. Many people these days are going all white... I don't believe appliances look out of place. Re: Benchtop opinions please 5Sep 07, 2010 1:32 pm I too would opt for white top - def would make a feature of the oven too.... can't go wrong with whites in my opinion! Re: Benchtop opinions please 6Sep 10, 2010 9:08 am A definate white enthusiast. I've had black - never again. As MrsGreen said you will wipe non stop. And, not wipe with soap and water, I mean wipe with something that doesnt leave a streak or residue because you will see it non stop. And then you have the dilema of nasties on your bench if you use products! Re: Benchtop opinions please 7Sep 10, 2010 9:13 am As for introducing the black, maybe you can have a feature somewhere else that will pick up the black - say in the splashback/tile?. Maybe consider grey instead of white. Greys and black always match. Do you have bar stools or some seating? Have them in black. or a dark grey feature wall? There are plenty of ways to introduce the black without going it on the bench. Oh, how about a grey or white bench with black through it? I have seen it done, definately in stones and reconstituted. Re: Benchtop opinions please 8Sep 11, 2010 4:03 pm Thanks for all the advice, DH is set on a dark colour so we have chosen Creastyle Anthracite Artstone as a comprimise and I am very happy with the choice we have made. We are looking at a black and varying shades of grey mosaic tile for the splashback so I think it will all tie the black cooker in quite well. Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 12926 Hi We have finally decided to complete a KDR on our corner plot in NE Melbourne suburbs.
