Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 11, 2007 8:22 am Hey guys I have full height cupboards in my kitchen with a space for a side by side fridge. (with cupboards above)
The space will allow for approx 50-75mm space left and right of the fridge for ventilation. Should I make a hole in the ceiling above and behind the fridge to allow for ventilation or would that introduce other problems like vermin entry etc. My concern is that there is a space behind the cupboards above the fridge that would not allow any trapped heat to escape. But by making a hole I suspect the roof space heat would be greater and therefor enter the living space. Should the void space behind a built in fridge / cupboard arrangement be sealed completely, allowing fridge ventilation to be from the front top and sides of the fridge only? Thanks Re: Void space behind Fridge (full height cupboards) 2Nov 11, 2007 10:36 am I always allow a 200mm deep void behind my fridge cabinets and only allow 20-25mm all around the frond of the fridge.
I believe that if the cabinets go to the roof(without a bulkhead) then you would be advised to vent into the ceiling space. Use a vent so you dont have problems with vermin. However if you cabinets stop short of the ceiling or have a bulkhead above them to the ceiling then this space should be sufficent to dissapate the heat. Re: Void space behind Fridge (full height cupboards) 3Nov 11, 2007 11:54 am I'm planning to have my fridge against an outside wall with vents to the outside near the bottom and near the top. This will improve the energy consumption of the fridge. It should be sealed between the fridge and the fridge cavity around the edges.
