Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 24, 2010 7:07 pm Pretty straight forward On our plans our overhead cupboards are 557 above bench height. Is this a little low do you think? Should they be a bit higher say around 600-700 or is it just a matter of personal taste? Any help greatly appreciated Happy, Healthy Free Range Wessex Saddleback Pigs My doom and gloom paperwork nightmare viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32170 Construction viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43653 Re: What height should o/heads be above bench height 2Aug 24, 2010 7:20 pm Hey Velouria, most rangehoods are flush to the o/h cupboards. Im pretty sure legally, the rangehood has to be at least 600 (it could be 650mm) above the cooktop. If its just for the cabinets then its personal choice like if you're short (like me) Re: What height should o/heads be above bench height 3Aug 24, 2010 7:22 pm WHAT YOU GOT OVERHEAD CUBOARDS TOO Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper! The rangehood is at 700 which is where it is supposed to be but the cupboards that are beside it are lower. I like the look of that so think I will just raise them to 600 (I am a short @rse so anything too high is a pain). The ones in the house where we are at the moment are a ridiculous 450 above bench height! KexKez that was one thing that really suprised me about this house. It is supposed to be geared for country lifestyle yet the kitchen had virtually no storage space and the pantry was small. We have an orchard (and bottle our own fruit / jams etc) as well as having a massive chest freezer for storing our pork and lamb that we slaughter so the panty had to be large enough to accomodate that. Not suprisingly the changes that we/I made to the kitchen were the most expensive out of everything (I dare not add it up incase DH sees and changes his mind). I was going to go as far as having soft closers on my drawers but had to draw the line somewhere. Why they make them so basic to begin with smacks of money making a bit to me - as I doubt anyone would accept it as it is and all the changes cost money - as you would well know. I have no idea if i'll reach the top shelf... but in all reality it's for things I only use a couple of times a year anyway when hubby will be around the reach them for me. I'll take the flush look over being able to reach them, but that's just me i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16008 Have look at your house plans and you will probably find that brick articulation joint has been missed.
