Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Choosing a fridge with ice maker? 2Aug 15, 2010 8:45 pm We have our filter in our walk in pantry which runs the length of the kitchen. That way we don't need to pull the fridge out to change it each year. Personal choice but we wouldn't be without ours. Our children are taught from a young age - 2ish - that if they are thirsty then they can have a glass of water. This makes it easy for them to help themselves. They are too little to reach the sink and use the tap so they use the fridge dispenser instead. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Choosing a fridge with ice maker? 3Aug 15, 2010 8:46 pm My parents have one and so do some friends, from an outsiders perspective the novelty wears off pretty quickly. Plus the added hassle of running a water line to the back of the fridge if you dont have one already there. Re: Choosing a fridge with ice maker? 4Aug 15, 2010 8:51 pm LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! We've had ours for a year and the novelty certainly hasn't worn off. It's great to have water there which, like Kyton, is so easy for the kids to help themselves. Never again will I run out of ice for my G&T's! We haven't had to change our filter yet, but once a year is nothing compared to the brita jugs that need changing more often... Even though there's only two of us that will be living in our house, we're both such lazy people! Hubby is not the type that will remember to fill up the water jug! There are quite a few different types now though so do your research first and decide from there whether or not it is worth it. Re: Choosing a fridge with ice maker? 6Aug 16, 2010 5:14 pm We are loving ours too. Never had a fridge with water and ice maker before and would now never be without one. No more arguments about who forgot to fill up the ice tray We are a family of 6 and before this I used to buy bottled water with a dispenser using about 2 big bottles a week ($20 a week) so we are way out in front by changing to a fridge with a filter, which needs to be replaced every 6 months .. yet to replace ours yet as it's still new. We had our plumbing done before we moved in as we knew we were going for a fridge with ice/water. I love the convenience of the water being right there and just a side note, the ice is half moon shaped so fits in the kids water bottles ... We have the Samsung side by side model with the drinks hutch. Re: Choosing a fridge with ice maker? 8Aug 19, 2010 1:12 pm After drinking nothing but filtered water from the fridge for the last few years, I couldnt go back to tap water. But Im sure if we hadnt have bought a fridg with the filtered water/ice maker I could have happily gone without. The filters arent too expensive, and I dont notice a difference in running costs. The fridge we bought for the new place is intergrated and has an internal icemaker, but Im looking for a filter that can go in our sink area Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: Choosing a fridge with ice maker? 12Sep 06, 2010 2:13 pm Our plumbing goes from the inside bottom of our pantry and through to the back of the fridge so no need to pull the fridge out. Ive had one for 6 months and LOVE it. As a family of 4 we are all drinking water much more regularly and the kids are able to help themselves. I love having ice always on hand as I never remembered to refill the ice trays in the old fridge. We have an electrolux and would get the same one again if given the choice.
