Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 08, 2010 2:45 pm When I redo my kitchen, I don't want to have any overhead cupboards. I've been looking at a few American design websites and I'm in love with the kitchens that don't have any overhead cupboards. Does anyone here have this style? What do you love and hate about it? I will have enough space so overhead cupboards for me aren't a necessity. If you have photos, can you post them? Thanks! here's what I've been drooling over lately: http://willowdecor.blogspot.com/2010/02 ... inets.html Re: Anyone with no overhead cupboards? 2Aug 08, 2010 2:54 pm I plan to have no overhead cupboards (although I plan a lot of things that aren't happening lately!). I think it's lovely. The kitchen I want to base mine on is at www.kitcheners.com.au Look at the "Malabar" kitchen. Perfecto!!! Re: Anyone with no overhead cupboards? 3Aug 08, 2010 3:08 pm I love some of the kitchens in the link you supplied. I love the nice open feel with lots of windows. In reality though I don't think I could achieve the same look and get it to fit within my budget though. LOL! I would be curious to see more affordable examples that look just as nice One thing I did notice in quite a few of the examples is that although there may not have been overhead cupboards they still made use of the wall space with open shelves and utensils hanging up. Although I thought it looked good from a practical point of view I tend to like all of that stuff put away where it can't collect dust LOL! Each to their own I guess I know I'm rambling but it has just dawned on me that the kitchen area doesn't feature any windows at all. It is galley style and sits centrally in the living space. (funny how I can look at all the lovely examples and really like the style but then realise my kitchen will be almost the complete opposite LOL) Re: Anyone with no overhead cupboards? 4Aug 08, 2010 3:12 pm Hi Decogal, I think kitchens look fine without overhead cupboards. Lucky you that you've got enough space!! We currently don't have them, but will definitely need to add them later on!! Re: Anyone with no overhead cupboards? 6Aug 08, 2010 4:00 pm I've got no overhead cupboards in my kitchen design. The open look is nice. My only concern is drinking glasses. I like to have these at head height to grab. Not sure how they'll go in a draw swishing around and gathering dust. Didn't need them as we have a 5.5m ish long pantry as well as many cupboards / drawers under the benches. Plus I wanted my benchtop and splashback to be the focus - not the cupboards. Casa - I have all my crockery and glassware in the drawers. It is brilliant - I just lined all with non-slip matting which meant nothing moved around and they stay neat. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=26913&hilit=nursery&start=20 - some photos are halfway down. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Anyone with no overhead cupboards? 8Aug 08, 2010 6:07 pm I have no overheads as the back wall is all windows and we have quite a big island bench. I like the look if you have the room for enough low cupboards. We also have a walk-in pantry with helps with storage. One wall had 2 windows, so didn't want any there and then I wanted the stove as the feature, so nothing there either. I too went for lots of drawers and had everything in those on non slip mats. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h40/nic71/kitchenfive.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h40/nic71/kitchenfour.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h40/nic71/kitchenone.jpg ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Anyone with no overhead cupboards? 11Aug 08, 2010 8:45 pm thanks everyone and for the pics too I'm also thinking about the glassware as I have young children, but I would like a nice wall unit on one of the short walls and that could take care of all the glassware and display types of items I currently have stored away. Re: Anyone with no overhead cupboards? 12Feb 16, 2016 2:37 pm Bumping this thread up. Wondering if anyone is planning to have a kitchen with no overhead cupboards (or has done already). Please post photos if you have. I am planning to do the same for our kitchen. I think we have enough storage and I really want no upper cupboards. One side of our kitchen wall will have the fridge and maybe cupboard on top of the fridge to bring it to ceiling height and on the other end will be our oven and convection microwave also will be brought to ceiling height (maybe we will flush it etc.) Looking for a nice splashback that will not look busy with only the range hood the only thing that will be in the middle of that wall. Hi all... my first post... I recently produced a set of plans for a large kitchen that had no wall cupboards, but it did have a tall slide-out pantry at the opposite end of the bench to the fridge. This way, the taller components 'framed' the ovens and the splasback. Both the fridge and pantry doors were finished in stainless steel and complimented each other quite well. The splasback had a 30mm stainless frame and the center is the same material as the benchtops. Maybe framing the splasback would help define your space too? I think a dedicated laptop draw is also worth adding if you dislike benchtop clutter. Hi, Can anyone give me approx. price for overhead cupboards. TIA 0 16601 That's a bit of a vague question. Either cupboard size is fine. With no real advantage or disadvantage to either, apart from the fact that the 900 cabinet fits more into… 1 797 Wish you all the best.
