Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 03, 2007 12:25 pm Hi,
This looks like a great site! Hopefully, you can help me. I'm looking at replacing the laminate on my benchtops but am really in the early planning of this project. To save time, can anyone give me some recommendations of where to buy laminate from? I'd also be interested in an indicative or average price that is fair. Thanks in advance. Andrew Re: Where to buy replacement laminate? 2Nov 03, 2007 12:59 pm Jimbo,
It depends where you are. I don't know what sort of profile tops you have, but if you want to replace laminate I would be suggesting you consider replacing the entire benchtop. Laminate is applied to a bench and formed around the leading edge which has a machined profile - hence the term postforming. This job is done by specialst benchtop fabricators who produce a set of benches including machine cut joins from a plan that theay are provided with by the customer. As an indication, if you were buying your tops through me (a reseller) you could expect to pay about $150 (including G.S.T) per linear metre for a 600mm deep 34mm thick postformed laminated benchtop. Joins and finished ends are extra. I know that many postformers are prepared to deal directly with the public -I just don't know what sort of price they charge. Dealing with a postformer has the added advantage of being able to select from a number of different brands of laminate as well as not neccesarily having to buy entire sheets of laminate (which can be up to 4m long) for the job you need doing. And as already said, they will all have perfectly machined joins ready to fasten together. If you just want to buy laminate to do the job yourself, there are a plethora of laminate suppliers you could get in touch with. A few include: Polytec Abet Laminati Duropal Colourpyne Halifax Vogel Group Crea Cheers, Earl Re: Where to buy replacement laminate? 3Nov 03, 2007 6:15 pm Thanks Earl for replying. I guess I should've put more info into my first post.
I am located in Sydney so am unable to deal with you unfortunately. My current benches do not have the postformed profile you describe. Instead, the benchtop has decorative timber edges with a flat piece of laminate on top. That is, the laminate is not bent around the edges at all. Instead, it is just glued onto the top flat area of the bench. This is one of the reasons I feel it could be a refinish job rather than replacement. Anyways, I will do a search for the companies you provided and will see how I go. If anyone knows of any specific Sydney businesses that will satisfy my needs then I'd be most appreciative. Thanks again, Andrew Re: Where to buy replacement laminate? 4Nov 03, 2007 6:31 pm Jimbo OZ……I know with Laminex, they will only sell to a dealer, like a kitchen supplier.
You might have to go through a kitchen supplier, or find yourself someone who does kitchen renos. Strumer could get what you want then ship it down to you, that’s up to him. Don't worry I wasn't trying to sell you anything - just attempting to answer your question about prices. Since you only require flat laminate it shouldn't be a major challenge to refinish your tops in situ if that is the way you wish to go. If you find (as Michelle suggested) that the various laminate suppliers are unwilling to deal with a non commercial customer I would still recommend you look up a benchtop fabricator/postformer to see what they can offer you in the way of striaght up laminate supply. Their markup will be offset by the commercial discount they receive, and they often have lots of colours in stock which, as I mentioned previously, can save you some money on buyng entire sheets if you don't need them. If no one else here comes up with any local fabricators just try google or your yellow pages - there are plenty... Hope this helps.
