Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: The new splashback material Metaline 24Sep 08, 2010 8:07 pm I was at the Laminex showroom today and the lady there told me that it would cost around the same as glass?? I'm in North Qld. If that's the case, wouldn't we be better off with a glass splashback? Would love to see some pics. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 25Sep 09, 2010 11:46 am A cheaper option is a new product called Laminam. Laminam is a full body porcelain ceramic that comes in 3000mm x 1000mm x 3.5mm. It has a mat tile look and is harder to scratch than glass. Price from about 400 per 3 sqm slab (there is a number of finishes- some more expensive) + installation. www.laminam.it Re: The new splashback material Metaline 26Sep 12, 2010 7:41 pm I too was very interested in this metaline product until the samples i ordered arrived & i did some basic scratch testing on them, first with my fingernails (not hard) & it marked, then with a light scourer, again it left abrasive marks. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 31Apr 22, 2011 9:39 pm I know this is an old thread so I am doing a bit of reviving...just wanted to butt in and say we had the exact same price quote for laminate vs glass splashback from our builder. Has anyone else gone with this product? I was contemplating the red but don't know if I'm being just a bit too brave. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 33Apr 26, 2011 9:47 am We were going to have metaline but the quote we got was the same as the quote we got for glass We later changed our glass to starfire (not realising they had only quoted for regular clear glass) and we were charged an additional $600 so it turned out the metaline would have been cheaper however the wider range of colours won us over. I have seen photos of some lovely kitchens with the metaline though Re: The new splashback material Metaline 34Jan 03, 2012 10:46 am Hi all, I am looking at installing a laminex metaline splashback in my kitchen and have visited the showroom and can order the sheets from the manufacturer. However, I am finding it very difficult to find someone who will install it for me. Does anyone know of an authorised installer of Metaline in Brisbane? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 35Jan 17, 2012 10:09 pm Hi Dani_t14- have you had any luck finding an installer? I have chosen the Rubicon Perle to use in my kitchen! You should be able to get some contacts from Laminex as they have to sign people up to install it... Re: The new splashback material Metaline 36Jan 19, 2012 12:08 pm Hi Judyh04, Unfortunately I still have had no luck finding an installer in Brisbane. I have been in touch with Laminex multiple times and they have passed me to their Sydney office and back again trying to find an installer but still no such luck Re: The new splashback material Metaline 37Apr 22, 2012 6:40 pm Kitchenpro Hi, we are in the process of trialling this product by installing a couple of splashbacks in customers homes at no cost to test the ease of installation, the look and the overall finish. The samples look pretty good, and the colour pallet is large enough. You can definately see the difference between Metaline and glass (obviously) and I do see there is a slight ripple look in some of the colours. Will keep you posted on how the trials go. Cheers Hi Kitchenpro If your still on this forum how did you go? I was thinking of using this product and would imagine you have had some feedback by now? I was just going to have white 900 x 600 plain white tiles as I wanted lest grout and thought I couldn't afford glass. Any comments would be greatly appreciated and pics would be great too. Thanks for reading Re: The new splashback material Metaline 39Mar 02, 2013 10:54 am Glass is stronger and more durable than this aluminium sheeting. It can be damaged on impact and also from over tightening the power points when installing them, it gets kind of buckled a bit around them when tightened. As i am aware by the time you buy the material and get installer works out more than glass, glass installed can be around 300-360 sq/m only. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 40Mar 02, 2013 11:34 am Splashers glass installed can be around 300-360 sq/m only. Thats for standard float glass and power point cut outs would be on top of that. More often than not people are having to use starfire glass which costs $400-450sqm installed plus cut outs.
