Re: The new splashback material Metaline 2Jul 29, 2010 11:15 am I'm interested in Metaline too. I heard that it's much cheaper than glass per square meter! Re: The new splashback material Metaline 3Jul 29, 2010 5:20 pm i just got on to ask the exact same thing............if anyone has used it please list all pros and cons. Also picrures would be a great help. I have been quoted approx $550.00 per sheet 3.6 x .8 also comes in 3.6 x 1.5, do you think this is cheap or expensive?? Re: The new splashback material Metaline 4Jul 30, 2010 9:57 pm I went to the Laminex showroom today and saw the Metaline splashback. Looking at the displays it certainly looked just like a glass splashback, so am now giving it serious consideration. The person I spoke to said it was $300 per sqm. Its also very light in weight so the installation is much easier apparently. At this point the only real advantage I can see is that its far cheaper than glass and Im yet to think of any negatives, so would be interested to hear what others think?? If anyone wants any more info, Ive got a product brochure here with all the specs & colours. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 5Jul 30, 2010 10:41 pm Vanillabean, can i ask as i only have the little 10cm x 4cm sample did you take note of the Sophisticat and/or Autumn perle.........can you compare the little sample with the big sheets and do they seem to look lighter the bigger the sheet you look at? i hope that all made sence.....lol thanx Re: The new splashback material Metaline 6Jul 31, 2010 10:59 am Hi Bromaco Im pretty sure it was the Sophisticat they had on display and from memory it was pretty similar to the sample. I certainly wouldnt have said it looks lighter...it looked like a very deep chocolate brown - really nice! They also had the Rubicon Perle which looked fantastic if you're into reds. I think they were the only 2 on display but they did have some really large sheets of different colours but I cant remember which, sorry! I really like the sample of Autumn Perle though. At this stage I think I like that, Sophisticat or Rubicon Perle. Play it safe with browns or be bold and go red....hmmmm! I'll probably go back for another look next week so I'll check it out for you then. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 7Jul 31, 2010 12:25 pm Thanx for the info Vanillabean.............we live 3hrs away from our nearest display and with 3 kids its a bit hard to just go for a drive.....lol. Our benches are in caesar stone Cashmere and our cupboards are an off white.....really nice off white, and we have been looking at glass but just cant find the right colour, yes we have looked at reds and like it but a brown would be more suitable.......i do have pics on here somewhere, if you wanted to look, your help has been greatly appreciated. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 8Aug 02, 2010 3:24 pm Your welcome Bromaco, happy to help. Will have a look around for your pics! Re: The new splashback material Metaline 9Aug 02, 2010 3:54 pm We plan to have a metaline splashback but haven't finalised choices in terms of colours etc. For us the biggest advantage was the fact that it is (apparently) a much cheaper option than glass. Having said that we haven't been quoted any figures yet LOL! The other main advantage is that it can go directly behind a heat source where as some other 'splashbacks' you can't. I have requested some samples but unfortunately they haven't arrived yet. Cheers! Re: The new splashback material Metaline 10Aug 02, 2010 4:19 pm i ordered 3 (most you can order) samples the other day and they arrived today.........noice! i am impressed. I now cant decide between the Sophisticat and the Autumn Perle. The autumn one is more a goldy brown and the Sophisticat a chocolate brown......i think i like this one more but going to ponder for a few days before making my final decision. A very BIG thanx to Vanillabean!!! Re: The new splashback material Metaline 11Aug 02, 2010 6:18 pm we went to the showroom on saturday and the lady said metaline has only been available retail for about a month....they have had it on some display homes in victoria for about a year and have had no complaints - but they ARE display homes! She also said that the approx cost will be about 20% cheaper than glass... We are having an all white kitchen so I think I need something a bit more dramatic for the splash and this just might tick the box. And it gets a double tick for being cheaper! I'll be interested to see what you decide. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 13Aug 03, 2010 11:55 pm Might need to check this out, was looking for ways to trim the budget and I didn't particularly want tilews so I had resigned myself to shelling out extra for glass. This changes things now though! Re: The new splashback material Metaline 14Aug 04, 2010 3:12 pm I have been comparing the 2 and quite liked the Metaline splashback. The only thing my Kitchen installer said is that it can scratch quite easily compared to glass so if you do knock it with a pan it will mark. That was about the only downside he could see with it. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 15Aug 04, 2010 10:54 pm That's interesting katie08, hadn't thought about that. I guess as long as you know it scratches easily and are extra careful, it worth it for the cost saving. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 16Aug 05, 2010 8:40 am Hi, we are in the process of trialling this product by installing a couple of splashbacks in customers homes at no cost to test the ease of installation, the look and the overall finish. The samples look pretty good, and the colour pallet is large enough. You can definately see the difference between Metaline and glass (obviously) and I do see there is a slight ripple look in some of the colours. Will keep you posted on how the trials go. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 17Aug 05, 2010 9:03 am Interesting posts I have to have a look if this can be templated, cut and mounted the same way as glass splashbacks I do not mind paying less money I have been thinking in making my own metal splashback near the stove as my cookware is large and often hits the wall besides the burners are large too. Just had a word with Laminex people and buy Gosh! the beat around the bush with accreditation and so on so forth I think at the end will cost me more than glass itself. Tha is Victoria I do not know if it is different anywhere else. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 18Aug 20, 2010 5:59 pm Just thought id let you all know that my Metaline splashback got installed today........i must say i am very impressed so far, very easy to clean and looks just like glass. I love it mind you i havnt had to wipe fat off of it yet. I will take some pics over the weekend and post them for you all to see. I will keep you posted as to what i think of it in a few days....lol Re: The new splashback material Metaline 19Aug 20, 2010 8:37 pm Anyone know what kind of paint they're using? We're aiming for as low VOC kitchen as we can, and I'm assuming this has something nasty on it (although it ain't necessarily so - Laminex do have a low VOC range). To date I've been thinking stainless steel or glass for our splashback. Ours is only going to be small, so cost isn't a huge consideration (famous last words). e. Re: The new splashback material Metaline 20Aug 26, 2010 4:14 pm Do you have any pics Bromaco? Very keen to see how it looks and what you think so far!
