Hi,
Following on from my earlier post about the maximum length of laminate benchtop....
I e-mailed the laminate company and they say the maximum length of the laminate is 3660mm. Our kitchen however, is just slightly longer than this (think about 3675ish). When we did the original colour choices we decided to upgrade the oven to a built in model because they look nicer! At no stage were we told that this would mean we would then have an unsightly join in our benchtop. We could then have chosen a different laminate which may join together less noticably, or just stuck with the standard cooker.
The laminate we have chosen is a wood colour with grain marks along the length. These grain marks are obviously different either side of the join so it's not really a good choice of laminate to have a join down the middle. Could they have put the join in a less noticable place? Can it go directly beside the stove top or would this cause problems with heat etc?
I feel all this should have been explained to us while we were choosing our options. (We're building with M3tric0n)
We're not happy to go ahead with handover with it like this but what are our options? Should we get them to replace the whole benchtop for a different colour (which may not match with the rest of our kitchen!), or downgrade our oven to the stand alone variety?
Any suggestions would be most welcome!
Thanks,
Ruth
