Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 17, 2010 6:13 pm Hello, I am in love with the glossy kitchen cabinet doors, and I know its a stupid question but what are they called? If anyone got a price to upgrade from standard laminate to this in their kitchen I would appreciate this information, just as a guide (if we should just forget it or not!!) Thanks Re: Glossy kitchen cabinet doors? 2Jul 17, 2010 6:17 pm Glossy Doors are usually, Vinyl Wrap - High Gloss or Two Pack. According to my cabinet maker, a Laminate door costs $50 where as a Vinyl Wrap door costs $80. I am in the process of building a house and that is how much he is charging me - so I have gone Vinyl Wrap - White High Gloss through out the entire house. Re: Glossy kitchen cabinet doors? 3Jul 17, 2010 7:51 pm We chose two pack in our rebuild, for us there was no other option, we just love the look .... I can't tell you individual prices as ours was a total price that included kitchen, laundry, overheads, b.i.robes, bathroom vanities - yes, it's expensive but worth every cent, it looks magnificent Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: Glossy kitchen cabinet doors? 4Jul 17, 2010 8:24 pm Laminex has a fairly new product call Silk. A few people of the forum have used it in their kitchens. Check out the Show Me Your Kitchen Thread, page 34 Leni's kitchen & page 28 for bluegumboot's kitchen. Both have used it in Polar White, bluegumboot has also used it in Pumice for bathroom vanities which you can see on her blog. This may not be an upgrade it could possibly standard, just check with your cabinetmaker. My son's builder does not charge extra for it. Re: Glossy kitchen cabinet doors? 5Jul 17, 2010 11:12 pm Kazza beat me to it!! I have the laminex silk finish for my cuboards and love it. It has the ABS edging, so it is not a seamless look like you would get with vinyl or 2pac, but it is very easy to clean and it seems very hard wearing (only had it a couple of months!) I'm on page 34 of show me your kitchen and have a full list of finishes. photos also here: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... ?start=all Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: Glossy kitchen cabinet doors? 6Jul 18, 2010 7:13 pm I am constantly amazed by the brilliant information I get from this forum! Thank you everyone... I still do not know which way we will go, until we have prices from the builder. I have done a search of this forum also on vinyl wrap and 2 pack so I am aware of the issues with each (but still not put off because it looks so lovely!). Thankyou for pointing me in the direction of those kitchens with the new silk product - Leni your kitchen looks beautiful (what is your benchtop - stone or diamond gloss? - looks great!) I think if the really glossy stuff is too expensive for us we will definitely go with the silk. Thanks again!! Re: Glossy kitchen cabinet doors? 7Jul 19, 2010 10:40 am What's the difference between vinyl gloss and vinyl 2pac? is the latter just another gloss of paint? Also what's Laminate ABS edge? Sorry for being a noob, just started my own kitchen renovation research 2 days ago. Hi Stuey, think you’ve got a couple of options here you’d just need to decide your preference/which options suits best. You could recess the windows (just keep in… 1 3994 we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3575 |
