Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 16, 2010 9:22 am Hi everyone, I don't post alot just lurk and check out everyones fantastic kitchens. Its all giving me some inspiration for our new build, BUT I need some help! We are having polished concrete flooring in our new house that is on acreage. We are going for the 'modern weatherboard look and feel', we want the house to be kid friendly and not be too precious with the kids running around and having friends over. My question is, do you think having concrete flooring AND then benchtops would be too much???? Too cold looking and sterile???? We are going for a warmer beige colour concrete. I want to introduce some wood look feature cupboards/wine storage cupboards, to give it a more natural and warm feel. Do you think this would work? I also have my eye on a red oven (can't remember the brand) to add a splash of colour, still undecided seeing as we want a more rural relaxed look. As you can probably tell, I am all over the place with style I am after Thanks in advance. I need help!!! Re: Would polished concrete flooring and benchtops be too mu 2Jul 16, 2010 2:57 pm I think it could look fabulous. See if Onc is able pm you some links for pictures since he does this line of work. I am pretty sure there was someone on here who went for polished concrete flooring and benchtops earlier this year/last year. Onc will most likley know the threads or maybe able to share some pictures from some of his own work with you. Re: Would polished concrete flooring and benchtops be too mu 4Jul 18, 2010 12:45 am HI Daisy Onc has done my floor and he will be doing my benchtops in the same polished concrete. Like you we went for a light creme concrete. Ours has stones in it too, like travetine. I am going to get the most fabulous rug from overseas to inject some colour (funkyrugs.co.uk) and then the benchtops and floor wont look like they match. but you know what I think it is better that they match - there is a great sense of cohesion. I am having a greeny type cupboard (matches nourison tropics rug on site) and have chocolate leather sofas and dark oak dining furniture. I have found a picture, believe it or not of the same green cupboards I am having with the same benchtops and it is fabulous. I say go for it ... I am!!!!!! Re: Would polished concrete flooring and benchtops be too mu 6Jul 18, 2010 10:57 am Hi there Onc Knew you would pipe in there!!! I found loads of pics on the net last night and it seems if people go for the benchtops they usually have the floor too. I also have a very gorgeous pic form a design mag with it in. BTW My cupboard man needs to speak to you! All is good in building land. Insurance is nearly wound up so will speak to you when Ihave more news on this. Thats what I love about concrete, a liquid that turns solid Lots of inspiration comes from others' ideas Loads of bathrooms have the same mix(concrete) vanity... Others use a contrast ie white floor, black top.. or vikki verka Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Would polished concrete flooring and benchtops be too mu 9Jul 20, 2010 12:03 am Thanks everyone for all your replies! Have spoken to DH and he isn't keen on doing the concrete benchtops unfortunately. He is generally pretty good with my suggestions but this one is a no-go. I am able to get caesarstone benchtops at quite a reasonable price, so may just have try and find something that matches the flooring. Now should I go with a white colour to match the cupboards or something warmer that flows with the floor??? Kayandandy- Your kitchen plans souns amazing, would love to see pics when its done. Its great that you have all your colours selected, this is the part I am feeling alittle overwhelmed with. So much to choose! Would love your thoughts on caesarstone colours.......
