Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 07, 2010 11:56 pm Does anyone have timber laminate floor for their kitchens? I have a tight budget and tossing between timber laminate and real timber for kitchen/meal/family area. My concern is kitchen is wet area and will laminate stand up well with all that moisture - i certainly don't want to be obsessed with mopping every tiny splash onto the floor. Thanks. Re: Laminate flooring for kitchen?? 2Jul 10, 2010 12:57 pm My friend's got laminate floorboards in her kitchen and around the sink area it's all swollen. There are some very moisture resistant or even water proof laminate floorboards for wet areas like a brand called Aqua Step. Not sure if they sell them in australia though. Re: Laminate flooring for kitchen?? 4Jul 10, 2010 1:41 pm Ive had a laminate floating floor in my kitchen for nearly 2 years and in old house for several years before that - no problems, just very lightly damp mop, sponge up spills straight away - although very little spills, like a few drops from the dishes or the dogs bowl etc, are not an issue. Jaeger, your friend must of been a very messy dish washer - we've had no problems from ordinary dish washing. Admittedly we havent had a dishwasher leak Re: Laminate flooring for kitchen?? 5Jul 11, 2010 3:54 pm Thanks everyone. It's good to know what others have done. I have since carried out a bit more investigation and found out a couple of things - that Timber Impressions from Harvey N. is great. It is rated AC4 which is a lot better hardier than AC3. Also, apparently check for High densisty fibre HDF and not Medium DF for resistance to water. Sigh.... beggars can't be choosers. If i go for timber a good quality one is pricey and also i fear all the amount of maintenance to keep it scratch free etc. Not with kids in the house........
