Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 07, 2010 10:38 am Hi All I dream of ditching my dull office job and trying for a job in a kitchenware store like House or Matchbox. I reckon it'd be really nice, far more enjoyable than sitting in an office in front of a computer all day, but am worried about the drop in salary. I've tried to do some research, but can't find what a job like this might pay. Can anyone tell me an approx salary? Also, are the weekends usually rostered, or do you have to work every weekend with a couple of weekdays off in lieu? If we're put on this earth to help others, what are the others here for? Re: Anyone work in kitchenware? 2Jul 07, 2010 11:21 am Hi Sunflower, I used to be employed by a major retailer whose initials are DJ and I worked in both the liquor and small electrical/homewares departments at various times. It was a job I had during uni so was about 5 years ago and I worked on a casual basis; I think my wages were around $16 per hour. With regards to weekend work; it really depended on how well you got along with your supervisor If they liked you, you pretty much got to pick your shifts (including the occasional Sunday which usually involved penalty rates but no extra work ) but if they didn't like you, you'd typically get stuck with all of the crappy shifts like working all day on Saturdays or until 9pm on a Friday night (both of which involved no penalty rates). As with any other industry usually how "good" your shifts are depends on your level of seniority within the organisation. Hope that helps, good luck with the decision.
