Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 29, 2010 9:55 am My parents' are currently in negotiations to have their kitchen renovated. They are sure on everything except the cupboards... My mum is pretty set on the Polytec colour "Cappuccino" which both my sister and I agree is the best colour for the floor tiles they have (it's a 27 year old house) and the Ceasarstone Almond Rocca benchtop she wants. The difference is what finish they should get - matt in a laminate or gloss, which I think is only available in the vinyl wrap. So, getting to the point: Does anyone have gloss finish on their cupboards, and if so does it show marks more - like fingerprints, watermarks (e.g. in front of the sink), etc? I have a matt laminate in my kitchen and I have found that any marks don't really show up, but I imagine they would when you have a gloss finish because it reflects the light more. TIA Second Time 'Round Re: Cupboard finishes - your experience? 2Jun 29, 2010 11:18 am The colour will have an impact on how obvious marks are. We have matt finish dark cabinets, and they're a PITA to keep clean. Every fingerprint shows. I suspect that a patterned laminate wouldn't be so bad. Our light coloured overheads (also matt) don't seem to show marks anywhere near as badly. We has gloss white in the place we rented and the base cabinets got pretty grubby, but I suspect that would have happened no matter what the finish. Kids and sinks/dishwashers/rubbish bins around white cabinets are a bad combination. Still, they were easy enough to clean... Re: Cupboard finishes - your experience? 3Jun 30, 2010 9:02 am We have white gloss and you cannot see fingerprints at all. We have a matt finish on our fllorboards and you can see every little mark. Gloss is a great finish if you use it in a light color range. Re: Cupboard finishes - your experience? 4Jun 30, 2010 3:37 pm Hello FTR - long time no hear!!! We have white gloss 2pac and it is a cinch to keep clean. We had dark matt laminex and it was a pain, showed every mark as Kek said. I would go the gloss. Our cabinet maker said it is the easiest to keep clean in the long run and so far I agree (and this is with 2 kidlets under 4) Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Cupboard finishes - your experience? 5Jul 02, 2010 2:11 pm They finally chose the Melamine (laminate?) in a sheen finish, which seems to be the best compromise between matt and gloss. It is more reflective than the matt, but doesn't reflect mirror images like the gloss. Second Time 'Round Hi I bought an old cupboard that is in desperate need of some TLC. But I guess it's harder to tell the cost/benefit in your example - mainly the 'cost'? If you go 700mm, what are you doing extra… 2 1439 |
