Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 23, 2010 2:24 pm I've been an avid follower of the forums and would like some opinions on the use of mini-orb in a new kitchen. I've tried to attach a photo so hope it works. Where building in a bush setting and I want to utilise a bush type theme in a modern setting. Not sure on whether the mini-orb look will date - pros and cons as a material inside? http://yfrog.com/eddscf0381hj Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 4Jun 24, 2010 1:29 pm That's another thought - thanks. Does anyone know if the edges are sharp or if it will ding with kicking? (thinking of how the kids will treat it). This is the alternative inspiration - http://yfrog.com/fvkitchendesignj Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 5Jun 24, 2010 1:58 pm what is the mini-orb in this picture(s)? Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 7Jun 24, 2010 2:14 pm oh! thanks helyn I was looking for a miniature moon-shaped object, silly me! I think it looks great If you got a colorbond version it should stand up well to kicking! Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 10Jun 24, 2010 9:32 pm It looks great if it used, with the right style of home, you do see it in a few eco designs. We are going to use it on the outdoor kitchen. How do you find the timber benchtop as far as wear goes? Lou - your story is familiar. We're attempting to build on a downward sloping block next to bush (in Sydney). I'll look forward to seeing your outdoor kitchen! Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 12Jun 25, 2010 6:29 pm Thanks, I built the kitchen myself - it only owes me about $2500 (4.8m x 3.0m) The Douglas Fir (oregon) is all recycled out of the old roof/walls when we demolished before renovating. Its not the hardest timber so does get a fair few makes especially on the island bench. It doesn't bother me as thats the look of it anyway. Some parts have old nail/screw holes etc so adds to it. I still have a few things to finish but am happy with it Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 13Jun 25, 2010 6:49 pm Just surfing the real estate pages and found a kitchen with custom orb Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 14Jun 26, 2010 11:59 am perforated metal sheet could be another option http://www.google.com.au/images?hl=en&q ... CEwQsAQwBA Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 15Jun 26, 2010 1:00 pm For me, unless you are building in a rural setting and the rest of the house runs along that rural "recycled" theme, then I dont particularly care for it. But it is your house and you have to live with it - if you like it go for it! At the end of the day, if it does start to feel dated it can be changed *reasonably* easily. Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 16Jun 26, 2010 1:10 pm I wouldn't say it's dated - more that it is something that potential buyers may not like. And that's only relevant if you plan to sell the house before the kitchen reaches its use-by date. I wouldn't say it only fits the rural theme, I think someone with a good eye for design could use it in a contemporary style quite effectively. Re: Opinions on mini orb - is it dated? 17Jul 01, 2010 2:57 pm Thanks for all the opinions - still undecided but thought I would share one more photo that's inspired me. Wish I knew how to post the photo straight into the page without the link but here goes - http://yfrog.com/eapicturettrj |
