I've been tying to work with my kitchen for last 2 months and I just need some help:( this is conceptional drawing of our kitchen and other bits to give you guys an idea. What Im trying to achieve is to have all the big tall pantries next to the fridge recess til the end of that wall. and i was quite happy with that...until I saw "show me your kitchen" thread. I've seen some kitchens with pantries on the side wall (where my sink is currently) and I thought about doing that but then I won't have window in the kitchen which I can't compromise... I need to have a window! would it look funny if I have tall pantries on the hallway..?????? as in...opposite side of the wall from the window side? sorry I'm not explaining myself very well. what i'm trying to say is to have benches all round U-shape (including where it says cupboards by owner) then have big pantries built in on the other wall of the hall way. would it look funny and impractical? The measurement of the kitchen is 4.7m (from the fridge recess to the end panel) then 4m for the outward bench, gap between benches are 1.5m any better idea for me please?????????? As you can see, my house shape is not easy to work with:( Thanks in advance guys Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 2Jun 22, 2010 1:07 pm Hi there, My first impression on this one would be to do a built in corner pantry across the corner from sink side to laundry side, and i would have the stove top on that side too. Personally , i wouldn't have stove top coupled with brekky bar - but that is just my opinion. Not sure how much pantry space you need or why, but but you could get a good sized one in that space i mentioned - maybe could even have it slightly L shaped within that space? I use google images a lot - that is search for pictures of kitchens, take note of the bits you like and use them for inspiration . HTH's, Kylie Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 3Jun 22, 2010 1:11 pm It looks like a long, long way between sink/cooktop and fridge. Also assume that the space marked with an X is the dishwasher? I would definately move the dishwasher to near or under sink draining board. I would move the cooktop to the bench where you have "cbds by owner". I would move the sink to where the stove top currently is. I would put a pantry cabinet in the bottom left corner. Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 4Jun 22, 2010 1:15 pm I think your plan is great. You have your heart set on the cook top on the island, I wouldn't change that regardless of other people's opinions. The ONLY thing I would change... if you could, is to have a deeper island bench, so there's more room between the cook top and the breakfast bar. Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 5Jun 22, 2010 1:16 pm oh, and like a person above said, if that X is your dishwasher, I'd move that closer to the sink. Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 6Jun 22, 2010 1:18 pm Hi guys thanks for the reply:) I know lots of ppl prefer not to have cooktop on outward benches but that's just me. I love having that on there.. Little "X" is drawer...supplied by builder as standard. I know it looks dumb..doesn't it? haha I'd get dishwasher next to the sink. the reason I had sink there is to have sink where the window is. Not that I do lots of washings, but I'd like to have bright sun coming through when I'm in the kitchen. I'd like to get at least 4 x 600mm pantries (pull-out ones) and mainly because I've got heaps of crap. haha Our original plan by sales rep showed the pantry in that corner as corner pantry..but I got rid of that as I just didn't like it there. I don't know. I have weird taste..I guess. So nobody agrees with me having cooktop on the outward bench and also.....pantry on the hallway wall?:( Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 7Jun 22, 2010 1:19 pm Hi Erin:) I know you guys have cooktop on island. hehe yep that's just my preference. currently it's 90cm deep and the gap between benches to island bench is around 1.5m so maybe I'll make that to bit shorter and get 1.2m deep outward bench. that's what I can think of. Because the longer the outward bench, it's gonna reduce the size of the living/meal as it's one long big open plan........ do you think that's enough? Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 8Jun 22, 2010 1:31 pm I've seen houses with a wall of cupboards like you are talking about and I think they are fine (they don't need to be very deep either)-and if you then had an U shaped kitchen with benchtops & cupboards you would have heaps of space. Please help:( 10Jun 22, 2010 1:46 pm Not if it's that wall on the right in your plan-it's currently wasted space anyway. Shelves 20-30cm deep and reasonably close together height wise would allow you to have a wall of pantry cupboards where everything is visible as soon as you open a door. Please help:( 11Jun 22, 2010 1:51 pm Yep that was the wall I was talking about. originally we were gonna have WIL and I can't remember why that didn't make it to the plan. hmm..i'm thinking of doing that myself after hand-over...so should I just get builder to build a recess for that???so that it's even to the other walls? Would it be funny if i have pull-out pantries? ppl walking into the house through the hall way and I slide up craps? haha Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 12Jun 22, 2010 2:09 pm saemiseon Hi guys thanks for the reply:) I'd like to get at least 4 x 600mm pantries (pull-out ones) and mainly because I've got heaps of crap. haha Proper "Pull Pull Pantries" are rarely wider than 450mm, the reason being that a structure of this size is carrying a whole lotta mass already, which you have to realise you will be moving everytime you pull the pantry out of its recess. If you want a retractable pantry concept that is wider than this you may want to consider a couple of sets of "Inner Drawers", which are drawers hidden behind the pantry door - they can be as wide as you like (within reason) and pull out individually instead of all at the same time...alternatively you can alternate between "external" and inner drawers - the external drawers are fixed to the pantry door and open when the door is pulled out but in between each fixed drawer is an internal drawer. Both of these concepts are best implemented using high end drawer fittings such as the Blum or Grass softclose designs, as the loads these drawer/door combinations carry really are beyond the (longterm) capacity of the available pull out pantry hardware. Cheers, Earl Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 13Jun 22, 2010 2:16 pm Hi Earl. thanks for that:) I , to be honest, have no idea of different options you just listed but we'd be getting fairly strong ones with soft close mechanism. what are you thoughts on Ikea ones? Just out of curiosity.... Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 14Jun 22, 2010 2:39 pm I think thats a great wall for pantry cupboards. I would definitely be doing that. I agree with keeping the window in the kitchen, I wouldn't sacrifice that for a walk in pantry. If you can't fit pull out pantries on that wall what about bifold or sliding doors on wide pantry shelves? Its a great wall for storage. Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 15Jun 22, 2010 2:49 pm Hi there. thanks for that! I was bit worried for the fact that it's not actually INSIDE of the kitchen but I think it's better than wasting it....right? thanks:) sliding doors would be great idea one thing....if i organise this to be done with builder, would they do something different than just merely getting a recess and chuck in built cupboards in there? if yes, then i'd just get them to build a recess and later I'll get cabinet makers to make one to put one it. but little concern that it might not perfectly fit and shakes every time I try to open it. would builder do something different than just getting a recess if i get them to do it????????/ Cheers guys! Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 16Jun 22, 2010 3:02 pm Do you need more benchspace than you already have there? I think the wall of cupboards would look really smart where you have them. Where will your oven and microwave be? If you change it to benchtop you will have to continue the splashback right along that wall which is more $$$. I think cupboards would look okay along that wall as well. Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 17Jun 22, 2010 3:04 pm thanks Suh I personally think I have enough bench space as of that but was bit concerned whether it'd look bit too stuffy with all pantries on the wall you'd be facing from the living area. Oven and etc will be built in with tall pantries I guess. Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? I love the look of the oven etc built in to the tall cupboards, it's a very modern streamlined look...I think Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 19Jun 22, 2010 3:42 pm thanks Suh. I've got all these images I'm trying to achieve and it's going to cost us a bomb. if not several bombs I'm getting built-in shoe racks with sliding doors at the entry as well which is over 1k we've got quote for, so maybe I should just stick to my original plan.............. I'm keep on reminding myself this isn't going to be my dream house (which it isn't) and trying my best not to get so attached but I don't know where to stop! haha Re: Can I make this Kitchen layout better? Please help:( 20Jun 22, 2010 3:47 pm Yes, it's easy to get carried away and it's hard to settle for things you're not totally satisfied with but I like the sound of your kitchen as it is...really have you said anywhere what colours/finishes you're having? I have a short memory I posted the floorplan on Houzz.com forum and got some really good ideas and advice from people there. Then we reached out to a couple of renovation companies and one… 5 10106 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15610 Bigger the better for storage for me IMO. But I guess it's harder to tell the cost/benefit in your example - mainly the 'cost'? If you go 700mm, what are you doing extra… 2 1394 |
