Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 21, 2010 12:22 am I need some suggestions of what benchtops will go with the floors we are intending to do. We are planning on polished concrete in either Cemex Wattle or BGC EX2514C2. Both are pretty much the same thing as a finished product (to our eyes anyway). The builders generally use Q Stone or Caesar for the benchtops, but of course we can use whatever we wish. What would you use to go with these floors? I love the idea of polished concrete but I'm struggling to come up with benchtops that aren't too similar to the floors. Don't ask about what i'm using on the cupboards or anything else... I'm still struggling with elevation and coming to term with half the house having polished concrete. Greatly appreciate any suggestions Re: Benchtop that will go with our floors 2Jun 21, 2010 12:29 am MrsGreen I need some suggestions of what benchtops will go with the floors we are intending to do. If it's quite dark then a light ceaser benchtop should look ok. Like, if your floors are a dark grey, then a white ceaserstone benchtop should look nice. That's just my opinion (forgive me if you hate the idea!!! ) Re: Benchtop that will go with our floors 3Jun 21, 2010 12:32 am aldavies3 How dark will the floor be? I think as long as you have something in between the whitish floor and whitish benchtop it looks nice - eg dark coloured cabinets. I've gone for a creamy almost white floor tile in my kitchen and a whitish benchtop, but the cabinets are a dark grey and it separates the lights very nicely - am very impressed with it. I was planning on dark cabinets (possibly dark wood-look) so a white benchtop works well with that idea. Do the sides of you bench meet with the floor at all, or is it dark on the sides too? I have a black cooktop going in, will that be okay being in the white bench? Only the benchtop is the white colour for us - the four sides of the island bench are in a dark grey/charcoal colour. Under construction photo after tiling is complete of the kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Can't see the actual benchtop in that photo really, but it gives an idea of how the cabinet work fits in with the tiling. We've gone for silver cooktop and oven which I believe will work quite well. (Not yet installed) I don't see there being a problem with a black cooktop/oven in a white benchtop - I think it will look quite nice, provided the cabinet colour fits in with the black appliances - you'd have to match up your cabinet colour there. Re: Benchtop that will go with our floors 7Jun 21, 2010 9:27 pm At this stage we are having grey polished concrete floor, almost black cabinetry and white polished concrete benchtops. We have heaps of natural light and a void over part of the living area, so I am not too worried (except at 3am) about it being a bit dark. Some days we veer close to blue or green for the benchtops, but I have to own up to being a commitment-phobe when it comes to colour. I am however thinking of putting some pretty rocks in the aggregate ... Have you checked out the Cheng website? Lots of inspiration there ... http://www.concreteexchange.com e. Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 12921 2 4674 3 5582 |
