Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 05, 2006 5:14 pm Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how where to start with kitchen layout / design? I'm aware there are L-shaped kitchens, gallery kitchens etc, but I'm a little confused. Any idea's on contemporary kitchen designs will be highly appreciated. Peace, Kara Re: Kitchen Renovation Advice 2Feb 05, 2006 9:42 pm My site will eventually cater for what you're after but at the moment it is taking a long time to write up the content.
However, take a look at Google for information regarding the different types of kitchen layouts. Here is a link for an l shaped kitchen design. Kitchen Layouts 3Feb 06, 2006 10:12 am Hi Kara,
It can really pay to have a look around at some showrooms or shops and magazines if you want to see what people are doing at the moment. But don't forget a lot of showrooms feature displays that can be a couple of years old. Kitchens are best layed out to suit the space and needs of the user, be it a Galley, L shape, U shape, U with peninsula, U with island, et cetera. Once you know exactly what you want in your new kitchen then it is time to start measuring and designing. Often ones expectations can exceed ones opportunities/ budget but there is a lot that can be done with small or difficult spaces. It pays to get professional advice. It is even better if the person giving you the advice does not have a vested interest in selling you something, but getting this sort of service for "free" can be difficult or time consuming. I gladly provide free design advice for enquiries, but I am reluctant to plan a complete kitchen off a set of room dimensions that someone just faxes to me and five other suppliers without making any effort to look at my catalogue and do a bit of laying out (thinking) first. I am happy to design a kitchen from scratch for a fee - but this is mostly unneccesary as you probably have a better idea of what you want in your kitchen anyway, and just need some specific advice on how to place cabinets or what dimensions are suitable for appliances et cetera. Finally, don't get sucked in by "eye - candy" finishes. Glossy benchtops, for example, look superb but you might not want to be living with trying to keep them looking superb. Do the scratch test on any laminates you decide on. Respect, all. Earl Re: Kitchen Renovation Advice 5Feb 13, 2006 10:46 pm Thanks all for your feedback.
I'm in the process of loosely gathering kitchen ideas, but I feel it's slowly coming together. Still a good few months away though. Strumer, enjoyed your website. Neatly layed out, and particularly the section on How To > Planning Tips will assist nicely also. Peace, Kara Kitchen Layouts 6Feb 15, 2006 4:28 am Hi Kara,
Thanks for the feedback. We try to give people the information they need without overwhelming them - which can be hard sometimes. We are also currently building a new site, with some changes based on the feedback and responses from this and other forums. We hope to provide more of a virtual showroom, with indicitive costings as well as the current design and catalogue sections. If there are any other common issues people think should be on a kitchen suppliers web site I would be interested in hearing from you. And Kara, when you have an idea about your layout feel free to send me a copy for a look over if you want - just mention this thread. Much respect, all.
