Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 17, 2010 12:26 am Hi All They are finishing off my new kitchen and i am not happy with it at all. Breakfast Bar cabinet looks crooked. There arent any walls as it is the breakie bar and goes around the corner into the family room. So its not walls that are out of shape. Cabbie reckons template for stone tops is right so is the cabinet? A couple of the self closing drawers bang on each other. That is the bottom of one draw hits the top of the lower one. Are self closing drawers adjustable like cupboard doors? When drawers are shut they dont all line up on top. There is a few mil difference. End panel of breakfast bar runs out from the top to the bottom. Not flush at all. Pantry has adjustable shelves not fixed like i asked for. I wanted them fixed so when i need to get something off the top shelf i can climb up the shelves. This i can live with if i have to. I am so disappointed. They have been here three days and still havent finished. Got no overheads. Half the handles are missng. No filler/scribs are in. Went with a big company so we wouldnt have this problem and paid a excess for the pleasure. Tomorrow will be ringing the supervisor to come out and check out the crooked cabinet. Looks awful. Do you guys think i have a right to say i dont want the installer back on the job to finish it? Doesnt help when you use to be married to a cabinet maker and you know what to look for. Just looks nasty. Thanks Caz Re: Not happy with new kitchen 2Jun 17, 2010 12:33 am THe drawers should be adjustible, get the cabinet maker to show you how they can adjusted, so you can do it down the track if need be. Do you have any pics so we can see what you mean? You should communicate your issues in a factual way back to the cabinet maker, and give them a chance to resolve any issues. It sounds like they haven't finished yet, you may need to wait until they have done everything before looking too closely! Let us know how you go. Wasnt going to worry until its finished but if the stone is wrong because the kitchen is out of square who is going to pay. Me or the cabinet company. If self closing draws can be adjusted then that isnt a problem. I know how to adjust doors just not the drawers. Didnt realise you could adjust them. Borg ony the pantry was flat pack. Rest was already built. Not sure why they have taken three days. Was suppose to be done in two days. I am at work so have no idea why. Its a shame because company has been fantastic until now. Will ring the supervisor today about the kitchen being out of square and see what he says. Thanks Caz Re: Not happy with new kitchen 5Jun 17, 2010 9:32 am Just one thing to note. You cant really say anything until the declare the kitchen as ready/finished. It is very common to adjust doors as the last thing anyway. Everything is adjustable to some degree. Draws are usually tapped here and there then final holding screwed may be added so it doesn't move back. Re: Not happy with new kitchen 6Jun 17, 2010 11:52 pm Our kitchen took over 3 days to install.. and they had to come back at least 3 times after that! Just a few little things that had to be resolved, but I agree you need to wait until they have finished, then make a list of the things that need to be checked. With our kitchen the cabinet maker made the templates, but the stonemason came and checked them twice and made adjustments before fitting the stone. Any decent stone place will check and recheck before cutting!! They want thier money too, so they are going to do thier best to do a good job. (usually 50% is kept until after installation), so they have a much bigger reason than the cabinet maker (ours got pretty much all their money pre-installation).
