Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 04, 2010 11:09 pm Hi Folks We are in a bit of fix. Builder has quoted $ 3500 for an upgrade to caesar stone kitchen benchtop. Eventhough we would go for caesar stone but find this expensive. Can someone please share their experience if we can get it cheaper from somewhere else and where should we go? Thanks Re: caesar stone benchtops 2Jun 04, 2010 11:45 pm I think it depends on what builder you have my quote was $7300 for my upgrade so your price is not too bad i think, mine does include the waterfall sides which are $1000 each .. Im not sure if its cheaper to go elswhere because I didnt try.. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=31037 harvard 27 DFH signed contract 16th March 2010 slab down 1st June 2010 frame started 8th June 2010 trusses and frame finished 24th June 2010 tiles almost done 14th July 2010 Bricks started 14th July 2010 Plaster started 28th July 2010 Paint 25th August 2010 Re: caesar stone benchtops 3Jun 05, 2010 12:00 am stone is very expensive, we are just ordering a new kitchen, and ordering the stone ourselves direct from the stone guy, and its costing $6k alone for the stone with waterfalls sides. I would think $3500 upgrade from laminex is pretty good Re: caesar stone benchtops 4Jun 05, 2010 9:10 am Cost will also depend on the total length of the bench and the type of finish, so it's hard to compare with others unless you know how much stone they needed. Two years ago, we had nearly 7m of stone bench laid with the 40mm pencil edge (Essa Stone). It cost us $2500 installed. This was benchtops only, we didn't have a island bench to cover with any of the trendy side pieces that are currently happening (extra length there). If you're not happy with the cost, call up a few local stone masons that deal with Caesar Stone (the most prominent brand in stone bench tops), give them the rough dimensions of you what need and get a quote. Also do the same for a laminate bench and see what the price difference is. We have found that simply getting Ceasar Stone is more expensive than some of the other stone brands, so we were happy to look around at other stone brands and get the same product for a slightly cheaper price. You can always organise your own stone benches if that works out to be cheaper. That's what we did with our kitchen makeover, builders were fine with it. They told us when benches were required (gave us plenty of time) and we made sure they were ready to go and delivered on the right day. Hope that helps. Re: caesar stone benchtops 6Jun 05, 2010 9:56 am I think Ceaserstone is approx $500 per metre and it depends on how many slabs they need to use. We were quoted $5k on top of laminate for 8m of 30mm Ceaserstone- 3metres of this is island bench (no waterfall edges). It also depends on type of sink- eg drop in is more exp because they need to cut and finish the edge of the stone. Re: caesar stone benchtops 7Jun 05, 2010 10:54 am Caesarstone is priced in three levels: Standard, Deluxe and Premium so there will always be a spectrum of square meter pricing depending on which colour/pattern you want. Then there is 20mm vs 30mm and extras for built up edges, waterfall returns, cutouts for sinks and appliances. All of our clients are provided with a quote to purchase and install direct from the supplier (to our specifications). Cheers, Earl Re: caesar stone benchtops 8Jun 05, 2010 10:57 am also, longer expanses of bench are more expensive as well. Eg. a continuous 4m length is often more expensive tha 2x2m lengths, due to the difficulties of the longer length (harder to get a piece that is very long, more difficult/fragile to transport, etc). If you do only need smaller lengths, sometimes it pays to wait for the off-cuts from other jobs. My friend did this, was happy to wait until the off-cuts from other jobs meant that he would get his smaller pieces and he saved himself about 25% off the price if he'd just put in his order and expected it as per normal. Meant he had to wait about 5 weeks longer than he would have normally but that wasn't a problem for his kitchen installation. Re: caesar stone benchtops 9Jun 05, 2010 3:15 pm Thanks a lot folks for providing the insights. Next step for me is to ask the builder things like : what type of edge, thickness, quality (standard, premium etc.) and then compare to the figures I am getting from our forum members. I would soon share the findings. Thanks once again.. Re: caesar stone benchtops 10Jun 05, 2010 6:53 pm Pete_n_Pet also, longer expanses of bench are more expensive as well. You might be able to use the off cuts in bathrooms. We were able to keep our offcut, it was about 600x1200.it is big enought for a bathroom vanity easily. There will be cost to have it cut & polished to size, but we were able to keep our rough offcut for free. We will be using it to make a water feature! BTW, we paid just under $6k for our premium ceasarstone, white shimmer, with underslung sink and waterfall edge in 20mm. the waterfall end is 900mm deep, and the other sides 600 deep, and over 6m of linear length. I think it required two slabs. in the standard colour it was about $5k. We got about 5 quotes, and did not go with the cheapest, but the one we felt had the best workmanship and references (not the most expensive, either!) I have rung around locally and I can get 20mm granite installed with waterfall egdes for $3250 minus my laminate refund (hahahahahahahaha, refund....*sigh*). Its a little bit extra for under bench sinks (due to the edge polishing) so I'm still debating whether or not to get that (plus the added cost for the sink). I probably will, but extra costs are mounting up and I need to make sacrifices somewhere...... If it wasn't an overly silly amount i would have gone with Essa Stone through the builder, but $5500 was a hard pill to swallow. Try ringing around and source your own supplier, depending on your bench configuration granite may be better as the sheets are generally wider than the engineered stone ones. Thankyou for your advice. We do have Caesar coming out and hopefully resolve the issue for us. 4 18751 Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size.
