Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 02, 2010 12:24 am I just fall in love with this kitchen......luckily I can still change if I want to as we haven't singed off on our final plan but I'm not sure whether it's possible or if it is, it's gonna cost me arms and legs? I just can't stop thinking about it especially I plan to have cooktop on the island but I've been bit concerned about the safety issues with it island being a breakfast bench as well but if I have that I'll solve the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love love love it!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you guys know anyone who has it? or who can do this for me? anyone? please help so that I can sleep Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 2Jun 02, 2010 9:18 am I don't share your enthusiasm for it lol But that's the good thing about earth so many different people and different ideas. Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 3Jun 02, 2010 9:30 am Are you building with a project builder? Because if so I do not like your chances. If you were with a smaller private builder you may have an option to contact their cabinet maker and ask them. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 4Jun 02, 2010 11:51 am Hi guys We're building with...normal .....builder so I guess that's not private...builder? sorry not sure what you mean by project builder:) its' just builder who advertise themselves on news paper:) ah.........i want it so much..................................... Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 6Jun 02, 2010 12:38 pm haha you don't have to be sorry Bbb. it's my cup of tea whereas you might not like it that's fine. I tend to like odd stuff anyway hahaha I really still want it though despite everyone not being able to like it haha good thing that my partner likes it too then? I like funky stuff:) Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 7Jun 02, 2010 12:46 pm That's a lot of space used up for not a lot of function - if you want something like this you will need a nice big area for it to work properly. From a design point of view this really screams of trying to do something different just for the sake of it, without doing anything particularly innovative - I would be swearing everytime I catch myself on those protruding doorhandles. Round tops by themselves aren't a problem but the big money in that kitchen is the curved painted doors. Take your average two pack kitchen price and double it, if not triple. What about the actual peninsula design makes it work for you in terms of safety vs a more conventional rectangular layout? All of the safety and access aspects of the illustrated design can be equally achieved with rectilinear tops and cabinets, infact a square cooktop area would keep people even further away from the burners. If you really want to make this happen look for a kitchen designer or independent cabinetmaker in your area...I can't see a builder wanting to get involved with a project like this. Cheers, Earl Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 8Jun 02, 2010 12:56 pm I like it - but yeah I dont like to think about the price volume builders will charge extra for it - if you a doing a custom build, then any good quality kitchen company / designer should be able to draw this up for you and give you a quote. What i'm trying to achieve is not exactly the same as above picture. I do think it's not functional:) My kitchen layout is U-shape and looks pretty much the same as above. got tall pantries on the wall side, kitchen where the window is and I was gonna have cooktop on the outward bench (island....kind if you will) and I was bit concerned that I might splash my spag.bol all over people when they sit on breakfast bench but If I were to incorporate that round bench at the end, then I can purely cook there and use the normal square bench as a preparation section then people can use island purely for gathering area....that's all:) I don't mind not having the curved cupboards all around etc.... hehe I still think it looks awesome... Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 12Jun 02, 2010 8:23 pm It will be the cupboards in that design that will cost you a lot of money. I really like it, but I wouldn't want it Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 16Jun 03, 2010 12:08 am This is a high end kitchen for a couple or single person with no children. It would look good in a swanky apartment , but it is not for us plebs. It would be a starbucks in the morning, sushi for lunch and lucky to be home for dinner one night a week. No spagetti bol would ever go near it Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 17Jun 03, 2010 11:04 am Hey guys thanks for replies. My sales rep said he can go around get quotes for me before pre-start so that i can make up my mind prior to that. I don't agree that it's just for busy life-style kitchen.(not that I'm not busy..haha) My mum had kitchen like that (without round top) she had the cooktop on the island I used to sit around ALL THE TIME watch her cooking...maybe that's where I learnt all the cookings. I never thought it was dangerous even when I was younger. my partner and I both work full-time no kids, not planning to have one anytime soon, we eat almost every dinner at home except for weekends, and i don't see why it should be a problem. Only thing my partner worries is that he doesn't like the idea of having the cook top right next to the hall way so that the first thing you see when you walk into the living room is the COOKTOP I don't see what's wrong with that, but he reckons it'll look funny..... I still really really want it, kinda wanna prove everyone i was right too,,,(no offence or anything) I think it'll work fine. just need to get quotes Ps. I found the same range hood ,800 each.....from overseas:) Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 18Jun 03, 2010 11:24 am can you lift up the long bit of bench so that all you would have is the round bit coming out of the floor? that would be cool it looks like it belongs in a tv cooking show. it would definitely not work for me, but if you love it, go for it! let us know how you go with the builder "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. I found the same range hood ,800 each.....from overseas:) This shouldn't be your main focus here. You and your partner are building a house to suit yourselves. If you love it and it falls into your budget then you should do it. Don't focus on what anyone else likes or dislikes. Me personally I don't like it at all. Then again I cannot stand the idea of a cooktop on any bench. BUT my kitchen is built to suit me (not even DH got a choice in my kitchen as he does not cook at all) and many people here probably question how I designed it. Also be careful looking at appliances from overseas - you need to check wattage and power sources to see if they can be used here. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Round kitchen top....want it so much!! pics included! 20Jun 03, 2010 11:50 am Thanks for the reply:) I don't really care what other people think , well at least I thought that I don't but I still need to see how much they hate it cause I might sell the house in few year's time? I saw couple of people being very against to cook top being on island bench and I don't agree at all but when it comes down to selling the house, I need to consider what is acceptable in general too I reckon. that's the only reason I put up the thread on the forum. I like odd things, I hate normal stuff ....me personally think all the kitchens these days look so much the same from one another. they're all nice...people spend heaps of money on kitchen these days cause kitchen itself can sell the house, but I hate the idea of spending thousands of $$$$ and get exactly same kitchen as next door. that's just me. thanks for valuable advice. I agree with you that it needs to suit me. I personally think it will, I won't have exactly same as the picture of course:) But yep I'll try my best hey there! 😊 so, it’s kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20911 I would be wary.
