Just had a new granite bench installed (cosmic black). This granite has a reasonably strong “grain” through it, when applying the 40mm edge is it reasonably to expect that the grain would match? Just a little surprised at noticeably difference between top and bottom piece of edge, is this normal? Thats why I am going for 20mm. May not look as "flashy" as the thicker egdes, but it is uniform and cheaper. Re: Granite Bench Edges 5May 28, 2010 9:55 am Or Huggy_B - a manmade bench like Essa / Corian / Ceasarstone as they are more uniform in their "particles". We have 80mm on our main bench and then 40mm on our raised servery / splash but we used Ceasarstone which meant we didn't have to worry about matching up grain. Some things are worth waiting for. Yeah you can do that, but for me Essa Stone is a $5500 upgrade cost over laminate (no waterfall ends either), $5000 if I source my own Essa Stone or I can get granite for $3200 including waterfall ends (minus my laminate benchtop rebate). The leftover $ will almost pay for my floor tiling in the living areas. So piffle to Essa Stone....... Re: Granite Bench Edges 13May 31, 2010 7:42 am Yeah that looks weird, but because it is natural and with such a distinct grain in it, there is nothing that you can do. One thing that may be possible but a large pain in the *** is, to cut a very narrow strip, say 3mm thick, the minimum possible I guess off that top edge and stick it to the bottom edge, that way you might get some continuity. That's too late now. Did they tell you it was going to look like that? In fact I can't find a picture anywhere on the net that is even close this. I would have thought that if you cut the edge from the same side of the slab and flip this over then the grain would match. It apears that they have taken the bottom piece from a different secton of the slab. We are taking this up with the builder, be looking forward to their response.
