Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 26, 2010 12:23 pm Does anyone have experience with granite or stone overlay over an existing bench top? We are trying to do a kitchen upgrade without spending a mint and had heard about this option through a friend. Does it exist? Is it cheaper than installing a new bench top? How does it look? Ta Re: Granite or stone bench overlay 2May 26, 2010 12:26 pm Harvey-get quotes for replacing with a new benchtop and also the overlay. We got quotes from our local Granite Transformations franchise last year when we were in two minds about selling the house or staying in it-and to use the overlay product was going to be nearly $7000-and that was for a total of 4.9m of benchtop! It's amazing to think the full 20mm could cost more than the 6mm overlay. So much for a cheap project! The only reason i even want to do the benchtops is that the current cooktop we have needs replacing, and it's a non standard size, so when we replace it, we will end up with a big gaping hole in the benchtop. Thanks for the help though guys. Re: Granite or stone bench overlay 6Jun 04, 2010 9:38 pm Hi, We recently got a number of quotes to put a stone top over our existing laminex benchtop. The 6mm product ended up almost the same price as 20mm caeserstone. DH decided he would prefer to get 'natural stone', so we started looking at marble and granite. Shopping around we ended up choosing 'white river' granite (some great photos of someone else's georgeous kitchen using this on the 'show me your kitchen' thread) and got a price that was 1/3 cheaper than quotes we had for the 6mm overlay product. It's worth getting a few quotes from different places. Fik 0 9795 Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size.
