Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Am I being ripped off?? 41Oct 14, 2007 12:43 pm CEC,
Try and find a volume builder that will let you do that!! Obviously you are not familiar with the system down here. They will not let other tradesman access to their house whilst it is being built. eg. I want to build a retaining wall along the back fence of my house. I am able to use the tradesman supplied by my builder to do it but I cannot supply my own tradesman (who like me is the holder of the appropriate site cards) to do the job. The builder is the owner of the "construction" until handover. Why would he allow anothers tradesperson to work on his house? What if your kitchen causes damage to the rest of the house (water etc) who is responsible for the warranty. Too many grey areas here for most. Matt - No volume builder that I am aware of would allow you to install the kitchen after handover. That’s probably right! Matt - About the same amount who use professional colour consultants and professional home installation companies... Wrong…..I have done colours for clients who are building with Project builders….the builders don’t care. As long as the client pays me and they don’t. CEC – My last C/stone kitchen I did…..a couple of months ago, there WERE 40mm C/stone samples to be seen! Problem is….most people don’t like the colours the 40mm come in, so there not popular. While at the kitchen supplier my client pointed to the 40mm, but didn’t like the colours. BUT the samples were there, cut into 40mm pieces. Matt – Your builder was partially correct when you were told you could get 40mm, problem is you chose a 20mm. They should have come back to you with the difference. Hence sticking to the two 20mm together…..BUT you still got 40mm. This represents lack of communication from your builder, and the bad call of using MDF. Have I forgotten anything?? CEC….ring S/stone, ask them about their 40mm colours. I think there is only about 3. IF the client is willing to spend the extra, the builders don’t care….usually they have their hand out for that little extra profit as well! Lack of sleep doesn't agree with you .... Miss Grumpy! The point that I was trying to make was that most builders would not spend money hiring a "professional" for jobs like colour consultant. Just like they don't hire professional Home theatre installers to do cinemas... It costs less to pay an electrician to do it. Who is more qualified to consult on colour?? You are! Would "M" or h3nl3y or any of the other big builders pay you to supply colour advice to each client? Would you work for $18 per hour in a thankless (generally) job? It would be a waste of you "professional" talents Michelle Matt - About the same amount who use professional colour consultants and professional home installation companies... Back to kitchens and professionals. The guy in this town who is the Corrian installed, is in my mind the BEST we have. He is a professional. He has his son working for him WHO has NOT done any course for the job. But his father expects nothing but the best from his workers so they are taught to be fussy about the end result. Now he is not a professional, but does good work. In my eyes, if the product is done well, does it matter if you are not schooled in the knowledge of the work you do? the adjective professional - a person who is expert at his or her work as used in the following sentence ... "I think Matt is a professional theatre installer, I think Michelle is a professional interior designer, and I think Michelle's Corian guy is very professional." Fi has moved in!! Re: Am I being ripped off?? 56Oct 15, 2007 1:43 pm My colour consultant definately isn't professional (in any sense of the word) Just found out that she wrote the wrong colour down for our carpet and because the name of it is 'Rock Salt' I trusted that she wrote down the correct colour. We wanted charcoal/dark grey coloured carpet but now we have a yellowy-creamy colour. It looks terrible with everything else!!
I am currently fighting to the death... So NO I don't think large building companies use professionals. Next time i might give Michelle a call THEY HAVE FINISHED THE HOUSE AFTER NINE LONG MONTHS... BUT! The carpet is the wrong colour... Re: Am I being ripped off?? 58Oct 15, 2007 11:22 pm EXPERT
