Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 18, 2010 7:03 pm Hi Current building a new house and we have just had our kitchen put in with polar white diamond gloss benchtop and to our disappointment have discovered that the edging seems to be the only colour in the Laminex range that does not have the transparent acrylic edging. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem or had a kitchen in the same colours that could send me a photo to see what yours looks like. Laminex have agreed to change our benchtop has they agree that it has not been put together properly has you can really see the glued edges and the edges have not been polished properly but we are now wondering whether we should choose another white colour that has the transparent edging... Apparently our only other option is that they can used the polar white diamond gloss top and roll it over the edge to make sure it is definately the same but I am not real keen on a rolled edge since the reason we went with diamond gloss was because it was a cheap way of having a bench that looks like stone. Re: Polar white Diamond Gloss benchtop - issues with edging 2May 18, 2010 7:15 pm Can you post a picture of the bench. It may give us a better understanding of the problem. Cheers.......... Re: Polar white Diamond Gloss benchtop - issues with edging 3May 19, 2010 11:14 am We have just had DG pure mineral stone with acrylic edging installed for our kitchen bench and about to have White Valencia with the acrylic edge installed in the bathroom (today - hopefully ) I was tossing up for Polar White...but it looked too 'white' against the basin...so went with White Valencia instead. I'll whip out and take a pic of it and the edge for you while it's still in the garage...and another when installed.. Your joins are definately alot nicer than ours. I am trying to upload some photos but it keeps telling me; Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached. This is my first time using this, any tips on how to get my photos uploaded? I have reduced the size of the photos as low as I can. I think to have acrylic edges anyway you have to have the piece straight...so not sure about that curvy edge. They feed the piece through and the sides and acylic edge are heat bonded to the top...not stuck on. Mine are 33mm square edge with 2mm acrylic edge....and you cannot see any dark line/join.. It certainly looks like a slab of stone as some have asked me already if it is!! Check out White Valencia for white alternative, although it does have a little grey/blue marbling through it. The Pure Mineralstone actually looks really white overall......with flecks of grey. I'm surprised ( and glad) it looks more white than I thought as we have white carrara polished porcelain tiles on the floor and all others appeared cream......but this is 'whiter' than I thought!! Good luck with it.....I really love mine and am happy with it...easy to clean too. Just wipe over with clean dishcloth..and now and then with paper towel with a little white vinegar....glossy as!!! Re: Polar white Diamond Gloss benchtop - issues with edging 8May 19, 2010 4:42 pm I know we love the glossiness of the diamond gloss but just so set on plain white, not real keen on any speckles or marble effects. Has anyone got a polar white top with a different edge??? Re: Polar white Diamond Gloss benchtop - issues with edging 9May 19, 2010 5:19 pm Holy heck nattynoogie, that is not good at all!! So glad that laminex (or whoever) are replacing them, that work is atrocious!!! I have diamond gloss and requested the postform edge (wanted 8mm but got 10mm) and I have no joins at all. Saying that though, I had no idea that you could get the acrylic edging at that stage so that's what I probably would have gone with, but I can't complain with my edges at all. I'll see if I can dig up a photo. Re: Polar white Diamond Gloss benchtop - issues with edging 11May 19, 2010 7:45 pm Oh natty-that is an incredibly cruddy job! Re: Polar white Diamond Gloss benchtop - issues with edging 13May 19, 2010 9:28 pm yes thankfully laminex have inspected the bench in person and are not satisfied with the work and it will arrange to be replaced however even though they can assure a better job with the joins etc they edging for the polar white is unfortunately a slightly different product to the rest of the diamond gloss range and does not come with the transparent acrylic edge which is a real bummer so just trying to decide what to do. there are other whites we can choose from but we really wanted the plain white other than a speckle or marble look.
