Support bench for ceasar stone

We're also building with M and getting worried about what happened to your benchtops.

We're using caesar stone benchtops in the kitchen (40mm) and bath, ensuite and powder rooms (20mm). I don't think it would be a problem in the kitchen, as we have a thicker benchtop.

Just wondering what happened to your case?
We might ask our colour consultant about that shadow line / support bench colour. It wasn't in our colour schedule.

We feel relieved now.

We checked some display centres (even other builders'), and they really use a support bench for 20mm kitchen benchtops. They either use the same laminate as the the cupboards or same shade as the benchtop.

I had the rep from Smart Stone (Halifax Vogel Group) installing a display of their engineered stone tops in my studio on Friday and he told me that they will guarantee an unsuported extension of a 20mm top up to 300mm.

I was a bit sceptical about this but he insists that there is not a problem.
After 300mm they like to fit a double thickness to avoid breaking.

In any case I agree with you about the 40mm thickness, but was wondering if you have any thoughts about what the Smart Stone rep said?

I dont like it at all. I am sure that it will sit there unsupported no problem, but what happens the first time somone drops some heavy shopping bags on it or one of your boof head mates sits on it.

This is exactly what I thought - even someone's kiddies climbing up on the thing would have me worried...I am pleased to hear that I haven't been giving people the wrong advice - I always endorse a double thickness (40mm) or a substrate on any stone or engineered stone top with an overhang.

My other half asked about the benchtops last time he was talking to the CSC and her response was that it is standard, and that it is in the colour selections... (um, NO!) and then she said that it'll be the same colour as the under bench cabinets.
I guess I might bring it up when we meet the Site Manager in about 2 weeks for a walk-through and see if it can possibly not be put in, but I guess if it matches that's a start. I'm thinking that if there is a "support bench" for the island bench, this will be higher than the side benches (against the wall) which might look funny?
As Matt said to her, had we known we may have upgraded to the 40mm tops so that we wouldn't have this problem. To me, they have ommitted this information so I don't see how they can get away with it? Why are they allowed to suddenly add this information - yet we can't add anything, and we haven't agreed to this added information?

You may want to check that when you requested 40 mm that it is 40 mm throughout. That is, check you are not getting a 20 mm slab throughout + 20 mm only around the edges, unless this is what you want.

Oh Lordy, It never ends! When i spoke with her i said that i wanted to upgrade to the 40mm and asked her if it would get rid of the support bench and she said it would. I'll ring her again tomorrow because she also left out bifold doors and for some reason put a timber sliding on instead

I just finished reading that post actually, It really is a shock to me. I've come to expect to add atleast $10,000 to our final quote (since we've had like 6 already with different prices)!! Our sales person is a cadet and needs ALOT more training if you ask me!

So, I requested the upgrade to the 40mm bench which as i said was $900, sounds to cheap to be anything more then just the "add on" right??

For $900 it couldnt be anything else than double up.

Maybe Fiona is paying for full double up, but getting edge only. Thos poor hungry shareholders need to be fed you know.
