Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 63Oct 27, 2007 7:21 pm VJ Hi Catty and Sally, Just wondering what happened to your case? We might ask our colour consultant about that shadow line / support bench colour. It wasn't in our colour schedule. The support bench is only required with 20mm ceaserstone and only if there is a large overhange. Generally the only place this happens is in the kitchen. You have 40mm so the wont be a problem. Vanitys wont have large overhanges so again there wont be a need for a support bench. Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 64Oct 27, 2007 7:48 pm Thanks for that info, cuttingedgecabinets.
Really appreciate it! We feel relieved now. We checked some display centres (even other builders'), and they really use a support bench for 20mm kitchen benchtops. They either use the same laminate as the the cupboards or same shade as the benchtop. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 65Oct 28, 2007 9:42 am IMO 20mm in a kitchen looks underdone. It also means that support benchs are require when there is an overhange.
A kitchen is the largest piece of built in cabinetry in the house and usually last 15years +. I always sugest that people bite the bullit and pay for 30-40mm benchtops as they look so much better. With vanitys its a totally different story. 20mm is fine. Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 66Oct 28, 2007 11:08 am Hey CEC,
I had the rep from Smart Stone (Halifax Vogel Group) installing a display of their engineered stone tops in my studio on Friday and he told me that they will guarantee an unsuported extension of a 20mm top up to 300mm. I was a bit sceptical about this but he insists that there is not a problem. After 300mm they like to fit a double thickness to avoid breaking. In any case I agree with you about the 40mm thickness, but was wondering if you have any thoughts about what the Smart Stone rep said? Cheers, Earl Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 67Oct 28, 2007 3:44 pm Strumer Hey CEC, I had the rep from Smart Stone (Halifax Vogel Group) installing a display of their engineered stone tops in my studio on Friday and he told me that they will guarantee an unsuported extension of a 20mm top up to 300mm. I am sure that it will sit there unsupported no problem, but what happens the first time somone drops some heavy shopping bags on it or one of your boof head mates sits on it. Problem is that common sense isnt that common and people do silly things. I would prefer to have something that will take my weight if I sit on it rather than worrying about it. Hi CEC, This is exactly what I thought - even someone's kiddies climbing up on the thing would have me worried...I am pleased to hear that I haven't been giving people the wrong advice - I always endorse a double thickness (40mm) or a substrate on any stone or engineered stone top with an overhang. Cheers, Earl Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 70Nov 17, 2007 4:10 pm My other half asked about the benchtops last time he was talking to the CSC and her response was that it is standard, and that it is in the colour selections... (um, NO!) and then she said that it'll be the same colour as the under bench cabinets.
I guess I might bring it up when we meet the Site Manager in about 2 weeks for a walk-through and see if it can possibly not be put in, but I guess if it matches that's a start. I'm thinking that if there is a "support bench" for the island bench, this will be higher than the side benches (against the wall) which might look funny? As Matt said to her, had we known we may have upgraded to the 40mm tops so that we wouldn't have this problem. To me, they have ommitted this information so I don't see how they can get away with it? Why are they allowed to suddenly add this information - yet we can't add anything, and we haven't agreed to this added information? Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 72Nov 17, 2007 7:24 pm FionaL The shadow support bench is actually included in our contracts, it's suppose to be 18mm. I paid the extra $900 and got the 40mm bench as "M" said they only do 20 or 40, no 30 Fiona, You may want to check that when you requested 40 mm that it is 40 mm throughout. That is, check you are not getting a 20 mm slab throughout + 20 mm only around the edges, unless this is what you want. When i spoke with her i said that i wanted to upgrade to the 40mm and asked her if it would get rid of the support bench and she said it would. I'll ring her again tomorrow because she also left out bifold doors and for some reason put a timber sliding on instead Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 75Nov 17, 2007 8:40 pm I learnt this one from Matt. I've come to expect to add atleast $10,000 to our final quote (since we've had like 6 already with different prices)!! Our sales person is a cadet and needs ALOT more training if you ask me!
So, I requested the upgrade to the 40mm bench which as i said was $900, sounds to cheap to be anything more then just the "add on" right??
