Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Sep 30, 2007 10:30 pm Hello All,
Long time reader first time post-er (ok sorry for the lame intro!) The 'support benches' (as i was told they are called) look terrible. They are black when the cupboards are an off white colour. I have asked for them to be changed, but am wondering what this will entail? How is the ceasar stone attached? ps. i cant add a picture. i have no idea what i am doing!! can i also have help with this!!? (says i cannot add extensions on this this post)... THEY HAVE FINISHED THE HOUSE AFTER NINE LONG MONTHS... BUT! The carpet is the wrong colour... Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 2Sep 30, 2007 10:46 pm catty,
to post a picture you need to host it elsewhere. This server does not allow it. If you want it posted PM me for my email and I will host it for you or simply create a photobucket account. http://photobucket.com/ Matt I have reverted to username - mattwalker Carlisle Homes - Grande 43 My building experience is here: http://www.ourgrandeplan.blogspot.com Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 4Sep 30, 2007 11:15 pm Catty,
Well done! but.....thats shocking It looks like the support bench is piece of laminate and that strip should be easy to change to a more complimentary colour. Good luck and I hope you get a good result! Great first post (for the forum not for you ) and a lesson for first timers... this is the underside of the island bench 'support'. one piece of advice that i got was to make sure that no chipboard is expposed because if it gets wet it will warp and expand. Also, the board doesn't span the length of the bench so they have tacked another piece on the end, which is chipped, and doesnt sit flush with the stone!! Anyway, not happy Jan! oh, and btw..its hard to tell in the pic but the cupboards are charcoal - support bench is black - its obvious when u are there - honest! Something else you may not have picked up on is that the underside of your overhead cupboards are white instead of matching with the veneer you chose. There are some expert kitcheny types who frequent this forum who might be able to answer whether this is standard or not. yeah i am interested to hear of other people's experience. When i told our 'lovely' (ahem!) site manager about it last week he cut me off and said "check your contract. you may have over looked the colour choice". AS IF! "oh yes, can i please have an ugly piece of board under my ceasar stone? Yes? why thanks very much" THEY HAVE FINISHED THE HOUSE AFTER NINE LONG MONTHS... BUT! The carpet is the wrong colour... Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 8Sep 30, 2007 11:25 pm yeah that doesn't bother me as much. i think i might be ok (like u say - kitcheney type advice is welcome!!).

I hope you have some luck with this. I do love your bench and colours however. Is that iced snow ceasar? Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 12Oct 01, 2007 7:21 am Catty,
I'm not an expert, far from it, but why isn't the Ceaserstone benchtop directly on he vertical supports. That is, remove the so-called support board. To me this would look better and still be functional. I'm hoping one of the kitchen experts can let us know if this is possible. Also, I'm trying to get an idea of the colour of the cupboards - are they light grey or charcoal? The first picture shows the cupboards as light grey and the second as charcoal. Obviously different parts of the kitchen, but I'm having trouble visualising the big picture. I like the light grey cupboard colour. What colour is it? What material is it (vinyl, polyurethane, etc)? All the ceasarstone I've seen in displays and mags just sit straight on the cupboards. I definitely wouldn't be happy with that! Just out of curiousity who is the builder? Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 14Oct 01, 2007 1:29 pm That looks very unprofessional.
I too would like to know who the builder is.... Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 15Oct 01, 2007 5:28 pm Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies. The builder starts with 'M' The cupboards are Wilsonart soft grey (the lighter grey) on the cupboard fronts. The overhead cupboards and the back of the island bench is Slate Grey (the darker colour that you can see). And yes, Ceasar Stone is Ice Snow. Common colour but we are very happy with the colours. I will add a pic of the whole kitchen when i get back home. THEY HAVE FINISHED THE HOUSE AFTER NINE LONG MONTHS... BUT! The carpet is the wrong colour... Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 16Oct 01, 2007 6:16 pm Catty,
Is that 20 mm or 30 mm thick Ceaserstone? Also, for the Wilsonart soft grey (very nice colour), is that a polyurethane or vinyl wrap finish? Cheers, Casa Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 17Oct 01, 2007 8:37 pm is it possible that the bench top is only temporarily sitting on this piece until it is fitted on? Or is it all done? Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 18Oct 01, 2007 10:32 pm Good question Law, I was just thinking the same thing.
As we are building with the same company, I'll be jumping up and down if that's what my kitchen bench tops are installed like. Get them to show you a display that has the ceasarstone like that if they keep arguing. My guess is that it's 20mm - as this is what we got included in the m style pack. Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 19Oct 02, 2007 7:01 am M have recently completed our friend's house and they havent placed this additional 'support'. Our current kitchen was done 7 yrs ago and has this kind of arrangement but luckily its black granite. The normal trend is to 'hide' this support bench with a 40 mm border. check the display home and question them why its different. Re: Support bench for ceasar stone 20Oct 02, 2007 9:49 pm We're going to build with M and I got concerned about this.
If Vpande is right that a 40mm thickness would hide it, then we're safe. You won't be able to compare yours to any of M's display homes, as they always use the 40mm to 100mm thickness on their benchtops. I can't believe that a big company as M would design anything like that. I saw some benchtops from other builders' display homes with the same 20mm thickness and they don't have this extra support thing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! 4 3748 Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size.
