If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it.
I am meeting with my builder and cabinet maker tomorrow and would like to be fully informed before I go. I am having an island bench with waterfall edges and a 60mm apron in laminex diamond gloss. I have seen many photo's on this forum, which is where I got the idea from. I fell in love with monkey68 kitchen - she has something similar, but hers is a 80mm apron and its not an island bench. I've attached her thread (I hope it works, I'm a long time reader but a new poster!).
I've requested mitered joins but I've been told by my builder it can't be done so my builder would like to explain to me why it can't be done, then he would also like me to meet with the cabinet maker so he can explain to me why it can't be done. I've would have thought this was quite a normal request as I've seen so many photo's with the mitered joins. They look so much better than the butt joins.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Probably too late but I just read this topic. We have just recently had an island bench installed with waterfall edges & mitered joints so not sure why they are telling you it can't be done??
Unfortunately I can't post some close up pics to prove it until tonight but here are some pics that I posted viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13838&p=418636#p418636.

Thank you sooooo much for your help benschke. I'm seeing the builder in about 1 hour so this will help so much. I really appreciate you doing that for me. I'll have to let you know what my builder says. My kitchen is very similar to your's with white cabinets (laminex silk polar white) big squareish handles and the pure mineralstone benchtops.

Another quick question I forgot to ask you benschke - where you charged extra for the mitre join?

To be honest Janelle I didn't really keep a tight budget when it came to the Kitchen. I always said to my wife I want to do it properly as I didn't want to cut costs or corners & then in 12 months time sit back at it & think "Gee I wish we did this different......"
I asked 3 people to quote;
1st guy never rang back after I left him 4 messages. (I play poker with him down the pub every Thursday night & he still could raise the issue then??)
2nd said way to busy & was going away & could do it for at least 3 months (I'm OK with that as he was up front & honest)
3rd was there within 2 days & had the quote back to me within 48 hours - And they were the furtherest away from where we live.
So when the original quote came back they quoted $6k for ceaserstone benchtops!! That got knocked on the head pretty quickly so I said what about waterfall edges, soft close drawers etc. The revised quote was still an amount we were prepared to spend so we just went with it, no questions asked.
So in answer to your question, I think we were charged approx $1000 for the waterfall edges. Give or take a few $. As far a the mitre joint I don't know either. They didn't give us the option of a mitre or butt joint. That's what they came back with in the revised price.
I hope this helps?

Personally I wouldn't use "thermolaminate stuff" in a kitchen. If you google vinyl wrap you will see 1000s of people complaining about it lifting around head sources like…
