Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 May 06, 2010 9:41 pm Watching (and posting a bit) on this site for awhile....getting ideas etc...and generally just enjoying it. I especially love looking at the pictures...the befores and afters...or progress. We have decided to do a reno..before a reno. A fix up of what we have before we do extentions a little later. At the moment we are doing our kitchen and bathroom...and getting plans drawn for the extentions - 3 bits - which will be a 1. family room doubling....2. a dining area extention and 3. bigger master/ensuite. Just finished posting in mrsrusty's thread where she had a pic of the benchtop we chose..DG mineralstone. I googled for a picture and found hers on this site..it's when I joined....so thanks to mrsrusty!! We too had a pink bench and gagworthy pink tiles....uugh 2 years ago we put in a new oven, hotplates and rangehood..... Before the new oven.. The bathroom is a shambles....tiles mostly stripped off....but no new shower, bench or tiles to go in till next week!! Will post some pics of it tomorrow. Everything is such an ordeal....cordinating carpenter, plumbers, tilers etc...I can only imagine how it will be for the REAL reno..... Re: My Kitchen and bathroom reno..at last 2May 06, 2010 11:52 pm Looking good glad my pics helped and my sympathies on the pink! I like pink, but don't think using it as a bench is appropriate. Just wondering though, is having to remove the tiles a must when the benchtop was replaced? Its just that my parents have moved into their new house and mum isn't keen on the benchtop. Its a teal colour with beech cupboards. Black would be nice, not sure of any other ideas. Good luck with the rest of the reno's. Re: My Kitchen and bathroom reno..at last 3May 07, 2010 7:06 am Aah, I remember the stress and inconvenience of renovating kitchen and bathroom.... It'll all be worth it though. The new benchtop and sink make a huge difference already, and white tiles are timeless. Looking forward to updated photos! Re: My Kitchen and bathroom reno..at last 4May 07, 2010 10:47 am Hey, thanks mrsrusty...pink is not a bench colour really is it...hahaha Not sure if you HAVE to remove the tiles for the bench..we wanted to do both so that was the way. I am leaning that you MAY need to though because the bench had to go on before the tiling was done...tiling comes down over the bench. It sure makes a difference though....re-tiling is a pretty cheap improvement anyway. The tiling is being done today....and I just actually asked the tiler that question...he said 'yes' you can put a bench on with existing tiles..so long as they are straight (flat) and not chipped removing the old bench....the new bench (sometimes a little thicker) butts up to it and is siliconed. LOL, thanks kek..it's a worry alright....hahaha...but I'm sure will be worth it. We've waited quite a long time to do these things, putting it off as undecided whether or not we would build somewhere else and sell 'as is' or stay..so it's quite exciting. I agree the white will be timeless....not alot of choice with the wall colour, dark rosewood timber etc. We do love the blue/grey walls, so no chance of repainting ( well, we will 're-paint' but in the same colour) Not may options for 'blue/grey' stuff..although I have seen alot more grey about than there used to be. No pics of bathroom yet..will wait till tiler is out of my hair...and I can clean up, relax and get back on here...LOL Re: My Kitchen and bathroom reno..lots of before/during pics 5May 07, 2010 2:24 pm Tiling looks good so far.......the feature I had put above the hotplates to define the area..or add some texture/design contrast in a white expanse I think looks quite good.
