What about prepping food like peeling veges or rinsing a salad?
Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Sink on Island Bench 41May 02, 2010 8:41 pm SB1 we will be having the sink on the side bench, i want to be able to have laptops and room for newspapers on the bench and not worry about the water. Plus we never wash up when guests are over, we wait until they leave and then deal with the mess- so out of the way will work best for us. What about prepping food like peeling veges or rinsing a salad? Geoff - Decophile. Re: Sink on Island Bench 42May 02, 2010 8:43 pm kek Eager ^ x8. Great picture kek. That's a good looking kitchen but I notice the low clearance between the benchtop and the bottom of the cupboards. I can just imagine, barely enough room for the coffee maker or a kettle, imagine the steam and crap getting all over everything. And someone tall wouldn't have a hope of using the sink because they wouldn't be able to see it! Good point, Geoff. I didn't even notice the bench against the wall, I was looking at the cooktop/rangehood setup. Weird heights, that's for sure. It did occur to me that the owners mustn't actually cook much, as there's bugger-all bench space in that kitchen. I'd struggle to even make a sandwich there. I noticed that too Geoff, your head would be hitting the overheads. Re: Sink on Island Bench 43May 02, 2010 8:47 pm suh kek Eager ^ x8. Great picture kek. My husband has his laptop (I'm not allowed to call it that, it's a Macbook ) and his glass of Scotch on the bench now. But there are NO DISHES. Re: Sink on Island Bench 45May 02, 2010 9:02 pm Soooooo divine! Love the integrated dishwasher (is Southies ignoring us???? ) Re: Sink on Island Bench 46May 02, 2010 9:07 pm She's trying to think up a good excuse....no, I think she is consumed by curtains atm I am an expert at packing the dishwasher, DH and DS have no idea (probably on purpose ) I may have one or two things to wash by hand, maybe twice a week. I love my dishwasher BIG time if I had a super dooper big kitchen, I would have two. I fit everything in.... Perhaps they don't hate washing dishes as much as I do? Re: Sink on Island Bench 49May 03, 2010 7:19 am Another Mary Poppins here! Can't stand mess anywhere, things have to be put away sometime so why not as soon as you are finished using whatever it is? It's not fair to be left to Mum all the time, she is entitled to put her feet up at times too!! Re: Sink on Island Bench 50May 03, 2010 10:15 pm I am a complete neat freak. This is why I have posed the original question. I just won't be able to handle others (ie husband, child) slackness when it comes to keeping MY kitchen (It will become OURS or HIS if HE ever decides to cook in the next century!) in showroom condition.... On another note, how do your pots turn out when they are wahed in the dishwasher? At the moment i put everything else in the dishwasher but I hand wash pots and frypans as they don't seem to clean in the dishwasher (probably due to the dishwasher). I am definately getting a creme de la creme dishwasher in our new place especially if my sink is on the Island! Re: Sink on Island Bench 51May 03, 2010 10:19 pm suh Hi mcniks I have a sink on the island and I like it because it was integral to the kitchen design. I don't do a lot of washing up either and if I do, nothing gets left to dry by itself, I keep the island free of any clutter, and they are undermount sinks as well so it's very neat looking. ditto - verbatim!
