Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 30, 2010 3:38 pm Hi everyone, I'm after an everyday table for the kitchen/living area. My idea is a laminate top and some plain legs and non-intrusive style. A bit particular about size - preferrably in between the 2 "standard" sizes (120x75 and 150x90 cm), but this is negotiable. Searched and searched, and the closest match is IKEA's MELLTORP table (already assembled). http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/S49868235, but don't like that office/school look top part. I'm pretty sure that some years ago in IKEA you could buy the table top and the legs/undeframe separately as you wished and that the selection was pretty impressive. Doesn't seem to be the case any more. Does anyone know where in Syd we can get something like that? Tables seem to be either too grandiose, too defined in style, too plastic-ey or steel-ey or too country/timbery, or just too "too". All I want is a plain light coloured melamine/laminate top with some plain light coloured legs, and hopefully customisable in size. Already have a timber set, don't want timber. Of course, don't want to pay grandiose prices for a basic item like that. I like the laminate for its ease of use (no table cloths required, cleaning is a breeze). Is my only choice a retro style (they used lots of laminate for tops)!?!? Or, does anyone have a painted timber set? How does it perform (scratches etc.)?? There are a few at IKEA ...
