Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 26, 2010 11:09 pm Hi all, im after some advice of how to go about a kitchen pantry wall? building a new house and have all bottom cupboards n benches sorted - will need some wall units (looking at 2x glass/clear/white units along oven wall). and wall units near fridge area. colour selected for cupboards is formica bark with white quartz look benchtop. but as above - my query is what to do with the long pantry wall i have? approx 3700 long by 450 deep. looking at some large white tall units? approx 5 across? if anyone has any photos of suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. i have a floor plan to show but cant seem to upload ?? Re: Kitchen Pantry Wall? 2Apr 27, 2010 1:49 am to show the floorplan on here you can upload it to something like flickr or photobucket, then add the link into your post in here. It's a little misleading the insert image button in here... in answer to your qn, I think a wall of white doors would look perfectly ok. I've seen similar in several display homes and have always admired it - be it kitchen storage or hallways storage/linen cupboard. If they look flush with the walls surrounding it will look awesome. Re: Kitchen Pantry Wall? 4Apr 27, 2010 1:19 pm Since it is such a large wall, maybe consider putting a desk/office area in one of the cupboards. Handy for putting bills/notes/invitations/keys/phone charger etc etc. Have it with the same doors as the other cupboards - flush would look great - maybe even with the doors that can be pushed back into the wall when opened. Re: Kitchen Pantry Wall? 5Apr 27, 2010 1:40 pm I was just thinking similar - although I would probably do it as a bench the same as the kitchen area. There is a perfect spot for a little area on the end of the pantry cupboards, opposite end to the broom cupboard. You could either do it as a desk with open area below to allow a chair to slide in or out, or a buffet type thing where you could have telephone point and something decorative on top and cupboards below. What a lovely plan!! Have you considered slightly extending it to allow for a wall of cupboards opposite your washing machine area in the laundry? Re: Kitchen Pantry Wall? 6Apr 27, 2010 2:48 pm Thanks ! Yes originally the plan had 2x cupboards on both walls of laundry, even Bed1 was bigger with walk in robe/wall as a feature wall in front of the pantry wall which we are discussing. But due to council restrictions, i had to sacrifice a few things. This is maximum depth i can achieve (approx 14.5m deep) it was a bugger to fit in! I had to come up this design myself with the help of an architect friend. Its quite a wide block, but not that deep... very frustrating as not many builders have these type of designs!! whattodo - Exactly what i was thinking - I actually came across a pantry wall within a display home, they had a flat pressure system door? Which would mean no handles, just a clean flat wall and when u press on the door they spring open! quite nice , i cant find them anywhere on the net however!! and yes definitely will be using one of the space for office info, etc. Re: Kitchen Pantry Wall? 7Apr 27, 2010 9:34 pm Hi Mikeg12, We are having a wall of cupboards similar to yours and are having no handles and the spring open thing! All of the cabinet makers we went to for quotes could do them. The only negative they said is that you have to also push them to close them. So the total opposite to soft close doors. I don't mind as it is the look we want. Great house layout!! Cheers!
