Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 18, 2010 9:26 pm hallo people, i was wondering if anyone can help me with blum soft close i went to look at blum website and for the pull out drawer they have 4 products TANDEMBOX TANDEM METABOX STANDARD i have read over the forum that BLUM sell add ons SOFT CLOSE (called BLUMOTION) for non-BLUM drawers. people say it cost $80-100 per drawer for the SOFT CLOSE I am going for my kitchen appointment with clarendon soon and would like to find out if these add-ons do exist? i read the 4 above available options, none seems to indicate that they are add-ons soft close really appreciate if anyone can shed some lights on this thing. thank you very much Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 2Apr 18, 2010 11:45 pm This is the answer I get from hubby while he's busy doing something else But hopefully it answers your question well enough? TANDEM/TANDEMBOX - slightly curved sides, soft closing, carries more weight, elegant looking, can get cutlery organisers etc METABOX - straight sides, not soft closing Soft closing for drawers is always built in - cant be "added". You can "add" soft-close to cupboard doors however. You can get ball-bearing soft closing, but its a solid built draw (neither tandem or metabox) - not recommended in terms of durability Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Now comes another question what is reasonable cost to install them? while picking our tiles at beaumont, i met a clarendon client who is about to do hand-over of their house. they told me something can be terribly expensive to install and something are worth asking clarendon to fit into their house. (i didnt really ask what they have fitted and whats not as i think is rude) apparently kitchen is a big "land mine" that can blow you over. was wondering if this upgrade worth asking them to do it OR better do it ourselves. Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 4Apr 19, 2010 12:18 am Im not asking hubby on this one but I would say to get them to do it - hubby has a blum machine which looks like a big press and has all these little different coloured markers and measurements for different types of blum drawers and what not... its so precise it does half mms So Im guessing it would be a pain to retrofit. You can do it yourself without the blum machine, but I think its a lot more tedious.. Hubby charges an extra $80 per draw The cupboards you can always do yourself later on - they're easy peasy, its just an attachment to the hinge, even I can do it! I was aghast as I know they cost around $100. I contacted some kitchen companies and found a couple who would do it after handover for me, they would use the same drawer front but build new boxes with soft close mechanism and charge $150. I will be waiting till afterwards! This makes assembly faster and ordering easier. In the part number, the “A” is simply replaced by a “B.” Example: 558.5001A becomes 558.5001B http://www.blum.com/pdf/ep-092/en/ep-09 ... blm_en.pdf Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 9Apr 19, 2010 10:03 am You can get soft-closing drawers that aren't by Blum and they are soooo much cheaper. We have them. They seem to work okay and cost no where near as much. We did get Blum cupboards and they were a fortune but I love them. We did get Blum cupboards and they were a fortune but I love them. yeah i thought of that but if i am going for TANDEMBOX and it is integrated in their latest design perhaps it is not as costly (maybe only). which brand did you use for your soft-closing drawers? i am so "BLUMIMIZED" now. lol Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 11Apr 19, 2010 10:27 am meatpie shelby75 We were quoted $300 PER drawer to do soft close through our builder, we have 14 drawers in the kitchen. Kitchen place suggested them. I'd have to have a look but it could take a while before I know. I'd have to have a look but it could take a while before I know. oh. dont worry about it. no drama at all, i dont want to trouble you at all. thanks anyway for giving us alternative idea Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 15Apr 19, 2010 4:48 pm I didnt mean blummotion cant be added later at all, I meant that its not as simply as clicking something in to make them soft-closing if that makes sense - Sorry, hould have been more specific but it was quite late! And as I mentioned in regards to the machine we have, all the little precise measurements etc, would make it difficult to change to Tandembox so your better off letting them do it From now on, Ill make sure I dont post quickly late at night so people arent confused by my posts If you decide to get it done after handover, perhaps you should ring a few places and see whether they'll come out to do it, and how much for. If your builder charges you $100 per drawer than your obviously better off going with them. Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 16May 14, 2010 1:15 am finally we have gone thru our kitchen appointment quoted us using hettich soft close $220 for 10 cabinet doors, so it is $22 per door for drawers, we have 9 of them and they charge us $144 per drawers. i am quite happy to be honest. it is not as expensive as i thought considering this coming from them. please note this is for the soft close mechanism only. additional cupboards etc is extra price. Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 17May 14, 2010 8:43 am Dont know if anyone can answer this or its specific to my kitchen... We have Blum drawers and our cutlery set of draws is quite large, can you get the cutlery trays to fit? Should my builder have organised it or would I need to? Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 18May 14, 2010 9:18 am Bugger we had soft closing in our last kitchen but didnt think of it for this one - or did & forgot again?? How do we do it now? find out who is building the kitchen & get them to do it or go to the builder for a variation or try to find somone to do it later? We have started the build (to plumbing stage) so not sure if we even make any changes now? Cheers Kim Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 19May 14, 2010 9:47 am Ms Builder Dont know if anyone can answer this or its specific to my kitchen... We have Blum drawers and our cutlery set of draws is quite large, can you get the cutlery trays to fit? Should my builder have organised it or would I need to? Usually you purchase the cutlery trays seperately, after installation. Re: BLUM soft close - I have searched the forum and am confu 20May 14, 2010 2:00 pm Wow this draw is massive, I dont think I have ever seen one that big! If I get a smaller one it will move around within in. hmmm. I better start looking. The kitchen guy may even be able to get me one, might have to ask him. I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 3323 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8324 2 31355 |
