Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 14, 2010 4:44 pm Kek posted this kitchen in another thread, which I absolutely LOVE! http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/ms_builder/Splash.jpg I love the back of the Island bench so first question Does anyone know what brand and what name the laminate is? Second... We have already picked our 2pak cabinet colours but not our splashback yet. We are having a glass splashback... Next question is... Could we use this laminate behind the glass to create this as a splashback? Third question is... Do you think this would look terrible? Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 2Apr 14, 2010 4:48 pm Whoops, other colours for our kitchen would help... Lower cabinets are 2pak, Dulux Tristan: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Benchtop Quantum Quartz Starlight White Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Overhead cabinets are 2pak Lexicon 1/4 (Basically a slight off white), with two glass cabinets either side of the rangehood. Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 3Apr 14, 2010 4:50 pm So many questions, so little time It is nice and it does look like Fudge Stream but greyer and I reckon you could put anything behind the glass, BUT what colour are your cupboards? I personally would only tackle that if the cupboards were all white with a bit of grey perhaps. Hey and if you love it that much, do eeet. Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 5Apr 14, 2010 4:56 pm Yeah I think it would look funky too! I have sent the photo to my partner so I will get his thoughts before I get too excited about it. I wonder how they would put it on the glass though so there were no bubbles or anything... hmm And I do like fudgestream! I would love to know who manufacturers it, maybe its not available! It would probably date but doesnt everything lol Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 6Apr 14, 2010 5:00 pm Sorry not much help i have no idea what the colours are, but just wanted to say that that kitchen is gorgeous, absolutely love it. Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 7Apr 14, 2010 5:48 pm What a great idea. I have seen them put things in the glass but not behind. If you do go for it I would love to see pictures. Great Idea THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE IS 495 SQM OF BEACH SAND AND WEEDS! http://missvintageshouseofpain.blogspot.com/ Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 8Apr 14, 2010 5:48 pm Ms Builder the original picture is from here http://www.ruralbuilding.com.au/range_views/coastal.asp and I think one of the sales rep actually is a member on the forum. Maybe you could call/email them to find out what laminate it is? Bel Edit - I think the member is jayw Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 10Apr 15, 2010 8:21 am Aw thanks Bel! I will email them and see what they say. My partner is being a big hurdle in this, he thinks it will date too quickly. But I just love that kitchen - if I had have seen a photo of it before we had to choose colours I would have just about copied it (as far as I could). I would love to hear from any splashback installers or experts on whether this could be done. I just dont know if you would be able to put it up against the glass enough so there are no air bubbles or anything, and I wonder if it would look as glossy as normal glass. Re: Splashback idea - Would this work? 12Apr 18, 2010 7:28 pm I would have thought you would need starfire glass, otherwise you end up with the green tint. And - check with someone who really knows - my guess is that the laminate would be applied as a panel, with the glass then placed on top (i.e. a double layer). I thought there was a lot to love about this kitchen, but with the degree of vertical stripe in the laminate, I would want to be very careful about how it would work proportionally in terms of the horizontal space you have available. If the space is fairly narrow (horizontally), the vertical stripes might exaggerate that IYKWIM. Colour wise, though, I reckon it would work well. And anyway, if you tire of it and you do have it set up as two layers, you can always take the laminate panel out and paint/wallpaper/mosaic/collage/whatever in its place. e.
