Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 13, 2010 8:20 pm Our kitchen adjoins our lounge and I can't stand the look of cluttered benches so we are definitely having an upstand. This was to just be a half wall extending above the bench top height, but now I'm thinking I want more continuity between the kitchen and lounge, so am thinking of making the bench more "island" like, with an upstand on top. I have some ideas in mind but would love to see your pics. Have googled various terms and come up with practically nothing. Thanks in anticipation e. I absolutely lurve kyton's bench. I will go back and look for pics of it -- was previously noting its color and thickness, so can't remember anything about upstand. We were going to go for blue polished concrete until very recently ... The back of the island bench looks a little like fudgestream, but more grey. It didnt happen to mention what it was, did it Kek? Re: Show me your upstand?! 10Apr 15, 2010 10:21 am Hi, here is a photo of our upstand. We chose to make it into a liquor cabinet. We were originally having our bench as an island, but decided at the last minute to make it what it is now. Behind the hob we have the kitchen sink. Did you Google for them? If so, what's your secret term? (I always use Google Australia first -- well, actually, I use Blackle but same thing just less electricity used) Um...can't remember now. I'm having a very blonde day. I think it was just "kitchen upstand". This is the website anyway - it doesn't say what the laminate is: http://www.ruralbuilding.com.au/range_views/coastal.asp Re: Show me your upstand?! 12Apr 15, 2010 7:11 pm Could it be Laminex Smokey Sapelle? Blackened Linewood is too dark... Stringybark? Licorice Linea? Lustrous Elm? Re: Show me your upstand?! 14Apr 15, 2010 9:14 pm Ours is a full on divided section. In some ways I would love to have the open look but I too hate having the clutter showing from outside the kitchen. I guess If i'd thought about it enough i could have kept the clutter down the full wall end and had the rest as open benchtop. Pre moving in. I find it actually attracts clutter, there is always stuff sitting up there, with it being open in the new design we will be keeping the kitchen much tidier... having overheads and more organised/planned storage will help with that as well! Here are some before pics, normally our kitchen is much messier than this!! I find it actually attracts clutter, there is always stuff sitting up there..... Well, I'm a clutter nazi. There is NO CLUTTER ALLOWED in my kitchen. Everything has its place and woe betide anyone who doesn't return it there.... An upstand would just encourage my untidy family to make even more mess than they already do. Big open benches (and training your family to fear the wrath of Mum) are the answer. Re: Show me your upstand?! 17Apr 18, 2010 7:04 pm We don't do clutter either, but I just find I don't feel quite as relaxed towards the end of a dinner with friends if I can see cooking detritus all over the place. I'm actually a relatively tidy cook (all those years living by myself and having to clean up after myself) but still ... ! e. Re: Show me your upstand?! 18Apr 18, 2010 8:33 pm Thanks mate.
