Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 06, 2010 4:06 pm Hello All, We are thinking of getting a freestanding upright cooker for our kitchen. Here's our dilemma. As we cannot do our kitchen tiling until after handover, if I want the builder to install my cooktop, they will only be installing it on concrete. But I seriously would like it to sit on tiles. Does that mean I will have to find my own plumber to install after handover? Is there a problem having the cooktop sitting directly on concrete? and our biggest fear, how do you clean up if we spill sauce in the gap between the cooktop and the kitchen bench? So confusing, please help with suggestion urgently, our kitchen appointment is Monday thank you Re: Install upright cooker after or before tiles?? 2Apr 06, 2010 4:10 pm We had all of our appliances installed after the flooring went in. The main reason was if further down the track the appliance is replaced by a smaller item you will see continuous flooring from the remaining kitchen floor. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Install upright cooker after or before tiles?? 3Apr 06, 2010 4:48 pm There is not really any problem with the stove standing on the slab - just make sure that if it is a gas top that it sits 13mm higher than the neighbouring benchtops if they are not fire retardant. If tiling after the install, it can pay to try to try and get the tiles under the kicks - this is done by leaving the kickboards off at installation (if possible) and scribing them to the tiles afterwards...rather than fitting the tiles up to the kicks. Then, yes, you need to get your electrician and/or gas fitter/plumber to come out and re-connect the appliance. Upright stoves are fitted with enough cable/gas line to be pulled completely out of their cavity for cleaning - how often you actually do this is another story. This is the main reason I prefer built in cooktops and ovens - no cockroach rivieras down the sides. Thanks kyton, I certainly don't want the half finished look if I should ever need to move the stove Strumer just make sure that if it is a gas top that it sits 13mm higher than the neighbouring benchtops if they are not fire retardant. Oh good tip, I would never have thought of that, thanks Strumer Strumer Upright stoves are fitted with enough cable/gas line to be pulled completely out of their cavity for cleaning Hmm now I need to make the plumber/electrician to allow me enough slack to allow that Thanks so much for your help, it will make our decision a lot more informed I think we will definitely tile after handover, then get a plumber to install the unit afterwards, just seem more complete that way Cheers Re: Install upright cooker after or before tiles?? 5Apr 06, 2010 10:33 pm Our builder (M) has agreed to install the oven and dishwasher after our tiling is complete, as we are tiling after handover as well. Speak to the builder - they might agree to do the same. Thanks Bek, yes does not hurt to ask cheers jimnsal Re: Install upright cooker after or before tiles?? 7Apr 07, 2010 11:09 am There is no problem standing the cooker on concrete however if it is a free standing cooker it needs to be fixed to the floor with child proof safety brackets these are drilled trough and bolted to the floor so it cannot be moved or tip in case a child tries to shake the cook top. 2 15469 That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8644 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this? I am in SA 8 17056 |
