Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 06, 2010 2:47 pm I overheard a guy telling another dude at The Ponds sales office that 40mm ceasar stone is not solid stone... however, in the middle is some other material...its like ceasar stone coated... is it true for 40mm seasar stone benchtops... Re: Ceaser Stone Benchtop 3Apr 06, 2010 3:08 pm Stone comes in 20mm thicknesses, some come in 30mm. So generally, when choosing 40mm stone, the actual bench is 20mm thick stone sitting on a substrate but the edges etc are two pieces of stone joined together to get the 40mm, three for 60mm etc Does that make sense? Re: Ceaser Stone Benchtop 5Apr 10, 2010 12:28 am We've been shopping for Caesarstone lately, and it seems that like the previous poster said, you can get 20mm thick and sometimes solid 30mm thick (some colours only). To get thicker Caesarstone, they bond two or more thicknesses together. Our quote for 40mm stone had just an edging of 20mm stone bonded to the 20mm surface, to create a 40mm edge look. The middle of the benchtop was just MDF or similar underneath. Hope this makes sense! And I don't think you would want it to be either. The weight of the bench top starts to become a factor. CS comes in 20 and 30mm thickness which means with edging you can have 40mm and 60mm apparent widths. But the point is that even at 20mm thickness and the stone being properly supported underneath it is quite adequate for all that you want to do on it as a kitchen bench. The edge thickness is surely for looks. Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly.
