Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 30, 2010 6:43 pm Hello all,
I'm almost ready to head up to Melb to choose colours etc... I popped into the Laminex Showroom today and alfter fiddling with all those colour tags and a 19 month old this is that I'm thinking: Bechtops: Laminex Basalt Squareform Benchtop - natural finish Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bar back and wall cupboards: Laminex bleached reed (to run vertical or horizontal, that is the question) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Lower cupboards: Laminex Parchment - Natural finish Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Is it ok the mix 2 colours tagged beige with a grey benchtop? Do you have any other suggestions? For walls etc I'm thinking something similar to Dulux China White with a woodwork trim similar to Antique white... Antique White: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ China White: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Both look rather dark here but I promise they are white! Oh and here is the floorplan if that helps... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floor will be tiles... Which tiles? I don't know yet - open to suggestions! Does anyone have pictures of a similar kitchen? Kel Re: Laminex - basalt, bleached reed and parchment 2Mar 30, 2010 6:59 pm I like what you have chosen. I prefer the “reed” to run vertical, but really it’s a person choice. Antique White: China White:….neither of these are a white…thanks Dulux, but for the sake of it, yes these whites look good, either will work. I think you have done well, considering the mental picture I had as you explained how you had to choose your colours. Floors will be tiled but which tile - who knows just yet I was thinking vertical too but so much is horizontal at the moment in displays etc... This is the display kitchen - may help people visualise? Your tiles will have to meet up with carpet somewhere won’t it? That’s why I’m asking what colour you are having. Thanks for getting me thinking Michelle They will only meet at the doorway between the living area and bedroom hallways (so whatever a door way width is) and the same between the entrance and main bed. Now that I think about it they will also 'meet' at loo, laundry and bathroom entrances but these tiles may be different. Yep - that's mustard - please insert a vanilla white here. I actually like the tile shown and am in the process of finding out what it is. This display is no longer open as the design is a few years old. How the features change... My goodness - SO sorry Michelle If we did go with very similar floor tiles to what is in the 'display' pic would you then choose a brown based carpet? Yes….. and that will match in with your kitchen colours well also. It’s also a very neutral theme and should go with other things you may choose when you move and start decorating Re: Laminex - basalt, bleached reed and parchment 10Apr 04, 2010 7:34 pm If you are using a laminate splashback be [b]very carefull,[b]especially if you are using a gas cooktop. A combustible surface must be 200mm from the edge of the gas hot plate (standards). This means very carefully measuring the actual cook top, having a deeper bench, and specifying EXACTLY where the cook top cut-out is to be in the bench. If you do not adhere to this, and have a scorched splash-back, insurance will not cover you. I have found from experience that the same should apply with an electric cooktop.. Trust me, I know what I am talking about, I am a kitchen designer of long standing. Good luck with your colours.
