I have this thing where I can't wear a darker top than the pants I wear and I was starting to worry that my new kitchen would make me feel the same way I feel when I see a darker top over lighter pants (I'm insane I know) But after seeing the two tones in here with light on the bottom and dark on top I am very relieved as I now I know it looks great!!! (so the mental images in my head have been validated!!!) Thanks guys - enjoying spying on your new kitchens!!! We've sort of gone a blend of both: This one is for the bottom cupboards: Parbury Shadow Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is for the back of the island and the top cupboards: Parbury Slate Grey Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I don't have an actual kitchen to show you yet, but we chose these colours off a display our kitchen centre had up and it looked awesome! This way you are getting the best of both worlds?? Re: Two-toning 13Mar 29, 2010 10:37 pm We went in to our initial colour appointment dead set against having two different laminate colours in the kitchen, but everything changed in the 'frenzied heat' of the appointment! We also went darker up the top, the reasoning was we have spotted gum floors which are a really varied colourful timber and having a darker similiar toned wood grain laminate on the overhead cupboards tied the whole scheme together and creates an upward flow for your eyes. Plus we have quite a vibrant splashback, so I think it needed the extra colour on top to pull that in to line also. If you know what I mean There are some photos to give you an idea (though my camera adds a touch of pink to everything, you get the gist) if you scroll down on my blog here: http://buildingourhumbleabode.blogspot.com/ Re: Two-toning 14Apr 02, 2010 8:21 pm EmmaKate- love your kitchen - the colour of you splashback is the same as what we have chosen - it is great to actually see a sneak peek of what it might look like!! I think we will be having Osprey (light) bench tops, dark under bench cupboards and light upper cupboards - but still not sure!! Very hard to make up my mind (other than the burgundy splashback!!) Please keep the two-toned pictures coming - it is great to see everyone's awesome looking kitchens!! Mel - jumping in feet first to my first owner build!! We went with dark at the bottom and light at the top as we saw one like that in a display house which we really liked. I have since painted the bulkhead above the top cupboards in the same brown colour as the bottom cupboards. This makes the top ones stand out more rather than just blending into the wall colour. In hindsight, I should have picked a lighter cream colour for the top. Antique white would be an excellent choice and if we did it again, I think I would go with that too. Our bottom cupboards colour is called "wenge" and it is a wood grain, I really like it. Our tiles are called banur earth which is a beige, but we also have beige walls. I think white tiles would go with just about anything and it would look especially good against the dark brown. Our splash colour is dulux "snuggle pie", a coffee colour. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new.
