Re: concrete benchtop 22Apr 03, 2010 12:08 pm robbo3 I have a question about the weight of these benchtops. We are on B&J with timber floors, are the concrete bench tops very heavy? Are they heavier than the fake stone tops?. I would love a concrete bench top on our island, 3600mm long x 800mm wide, but it may be totally out of our price range (as stone is), I have almost resigned myself to laminate tops . We've done a few on J&B timber floors. 1 is 4.2mtrs x 1200mm x 50mm. Took 11 of us to lift it but since the weight is distributed it is no problem. I think we worked it out to 700 kg 3.6 custom would be about $2500 depending on intricacies. Hope this helps, Onc Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: concrete benchtop 23Apr 03, 2010 12:26 pm thanks for the heads up cclarity. i can see the similarities bw the cheng site and the photos on the brochure. (hey, but what a fantastically inspirational site that is!) we were indeed planning to go out to their workshop, so i will enquire about the source of the images in addition to looking at whatever they have in progress or just finished on their premises. this raises some interesting ethical issues about the use of photos in marketing tools. very few in the building industry use a professional photographer and so most of the time we end up looking at very poor representations of what might be very good work. in this case, it might be vice versa! strangely, even though i use stock photos in my own design work (which is not marketing), it has never occurred to me that the pics i am looking in building promotional flyers might not be the builder's own work. goes to show one should never take anything for granted! thanks again e. Re: concrete benchtop 25Apr 03, 2010 12:54 pm I would assume they have done some training with Cheng, They offer promotional tools, samples and stock photos, to members who have completed some training courses. Ive seen some of Chengs work over in the states, its pretty impressive in person. Would need alot of experience to get to that level of work, and its not for those on a tight budget. Re: concrete benchtop 26Apr 03, 2010 1:28 pm Good to know they might not be just ripping off images! I think concrete benchtops are likely to be our big extravagance, although if what I want is going to be $1000 p/m, I might need to tone down my expectations. I might prioritise a visit to the factory this week and report back. e. Re: concrete benchtop 33Apr 07, 2010 12:44 pm As for the prices, I'm a bit confused. I calculated roughly 6.70m and there are three corners and one sink. Maybe we will buy a simple upright stove - what would this roughly cost? And where are the guys who do this job? It is funny the material what they call "Cesarstone" reminds me very much of the material they use in Europe for floors, often in staircases and this is not very expensive, you can find it in rental houses. Isn't it roughly the same?? I think if it is not too expensive, concrete would be the best material for us.
