Have been reading everyone's great advice for quite some time and I am a first time "poster".........
I would like to replace my boring white under cabinet vent hood with a stainless steel one, but I am afraid of ruining my backsplash. Looking for advice on how to safely remove it/fix it etc............
The backsplash is made of those tiny 1/2" square glass tiles that came attached in 12" x 12" squares with mesh backing. When I originally installed it, I tiled up to the wall to just under the bottom of the hood. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.......and if I had it to do over again, I probably should have used those metal bars as a spacer/separator like I did around the corners of the wall, but I didn't - I just kept tiling and filled in the gaps with grout...... Right now, I would say there is about a 1/4" of thinset & grout that touches up against the bottom of the hood. I'm pretty sure in places it has adhered itself to the metal.
I'm afraid that when I try to slide out the hood, the tile and/or drywall is going to come right along with it.....or worse, the hood won't even budge.
Any ideas on how to tackle this with as little damage as possible?
Much appreciated.
