Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 21Mar 17, 2010 2:09 pm depends on what height you like to have your appliances... You don't have an oven tower, so you could either have a microwave shelf in an overhead cabinet (hanging down a little lower so that you don't have to lift everything insanely high to get to it), or the alternative would probably be in your island bench (have your dishwasher on one end - preferably next to your cutlery drawers - and your microwave on the other with a drawer underneath that you could use for storage of microwave safe containers). Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 22Mar 17, 2010 2:58 pm I dont want to bend to use the microwave. I would prefer it slightly higher than the kitchen platform, but not as high as the overheads.... so i am trying to think of somwhere, were it wont look very odd. That would save on bending over the oven as well, and allow for pot drawers or something underneath your cooktop. Then you would have an oven tower built into your kitchen which would in turn allow for the microwave to be placed directly above the oven. Depends if you're keen on an all-in-one stove or not - personally, I think the wall ovens are far better ergonomically than the all-in-one stoves (and I hate how most all in ones have the space underneath that you have to get down to clean - kickboards any day!). you could put an oven tower at the end of the kitchen - closest to the hallway to the bedrooms. It would frame the kitchen nicely, and still allow you a really decent amount of bench space on either side of your cook top. Your island bench is a great size for prep work and cleanup, so you shouldn't need a huge amount of space where your cooktop is. If I get a chance a little later I'll throw together an image or something to demonstrate. Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 24Mar 17, 2010 6:59 pm Thanks somewoman, i really like the idea of having a seperate oven tower with pot drawers. Can you please, show me in the plan if you have time. I just dont want the working space of the main platform where the hot plate is, do reduce drastically. Also is it better to have the oven tower next to the corner pantry or on the other side, as you said? I think the oven tower at the other end from the pantry. Having it too close to the pantry will close in the space and make it feel squishy, whereas it would help to "frame" the room if you have it at the other end. as a quick example, we have a cupboard at each end with the bench top in between - ours is a different design but still has the cooking section framed on one side by the oven tower and the other by cupboards and fridge space Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 26Mar 17, 2010 8:00 pm here is a 3D image that I did a year or so ago to demonstrate the way that I wanted my kitchen to be. We have two cooktops (a 900mm and a 600mm commercial wok burner), so we've taken up a lot of the space on this bench top. Nevertheless it is still a pretty good demonstration of how the oven tower works with the microwave provision above, and how the two high cupboard sections frame the rest. It would look too heavy to have all the tall cabinetry on one side and just a skinny wall on the other. Most of the fridges that we have looked at are under 1m in width. There are a few that are bigger than this - best thing to do is measure your fridge and allow for that space. We don't have the fridge yet, but we know that when we upgrade we will get one of those. We have also had a water point put in for the fridge - again not something that we can use now, but something we know we will have in future. We plan on buying a fully plumbed fridge with the filtered water/ice dispenser at front. Our long bench - including the fridge recess - is 4850mm. The wall oven is 900mm, so that allows a large space for the microwave above and some cook books. Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 30Mar 19, 2010 5:27 pm Just reading through thread and have another suggestion move the pantry to the otherside the bench closing off the entrance to the hall. Move the entrance to the internet/dining wall. This creates kitchen area with no through traffic and greatly opens up options with the kitchen and creates an open internet nook/room. I have very little idea. I want to fully render the elevation and have some good colors. I was thinking of leaving the windows white maybe, and having some form of brown double doors (any designer door suggestions ? not too costly...). Also, any other additions to make it look good... please give me advise. My elevation is below. And what colours do you like? This is kind of like asking "how long is a piece of string?" - it's no use suggesting colours to my own taste or that are not included in the ranges that you have to select from (ie, the brand and style of roof tiles would have an impact on what colours are available, as would the brand of paint used on the render). As an example, monier roof tiles have a choice of several different profiles. Some of those have only one available colour, some have three, some have about ten and some have 14. If you have a choice of 1 colour there's little point in someone setting your heart on something else, and it would go a long way to helping you with colours if there are boundaries... If you want a brown for your doors you might want to consider a timber finish? There are some really beautiful timber finish doors around that would give a brilliant WOW factor to the front of your home. Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 33Mar 23, 2010 11:13 am somewoman, i prefer a timber finish type double door for front entrance. The color we like are light colors light chocolate color or light cream colour. The roof will be dark tiles (almost black). My builder Ross North, provides good selection, and i am willing to spend little extra for that wow factor. thanks Land - Northerly Estate, Piara Waters Titles Issues 05 April 2010 Building with Ross North Homes Prestart Completed 12 April 2010 Finance Approved 01 May 2010 Slab down 29 May 2010 Frame Completed 28 June 2010 Roof Completed 22 July 2010 Lockup 12 August 2010 PCI 24 Sep 2010 Handover 08 Oct 2010 Building Thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32295&start=0 Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 34Mar 23, 2010 12:05 pm do a google search for corinthian and hume timber doors. I think that the corinthian are generally more expensive, but the ranges should be pretty similar. Both have some realy beautiful doors using mixes of timber and glass. Corinthian has a sunburst pattern that looks STUNNING on double doors. We're using a Hume Illusion door (in a wide 1200mm profile, but also available in a standard width). It is pretty special, but I wouldn't want to use these anywhere where people can see through your house. We have a large wall spanning across our entry, so anyone looking in will see whatever wall decoration we use. There may not be an exact match for facade or supplier but its a good start. Why don't you spend some time getting some colour combinations together first that you like and then asking for feedback/advice. Rather than expecting someone else to do all the work - we've all had to go through the pain of colour selection. Posting all the colour names etc doesn't really speed up someone helping you design your facade. The person game enough to spend the time to help then has to look up all those colours before translating that into your facade and when you've listed every single option that makes it too big a job for most people. edit: There is a someone on H1 D@n who does home elevations/visuals who could help you for a fee http://www.newhomevisuals.com Its a ridiculous time of day so forgive me for being blunt...
