Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 13, 2010 3:27 pm Hi, Please see my house plan below. I want to increase the size of the kitchen. We have a double door fridge / freezer and it seems to be taking bulk of the place in the kitchen. Can you please try and rearrange my kitchen so i have bit more kitchen working space around the hot plates and at the same time fit the freezer and a little bit bigger pantry. Even if this means to connect the island bench and not have a open plan. Please provide your ideas. Mine is kind of similar so have a squiz to see what i mean. There is someone on home1 called "somewoman" who is absolutely brilliant in coming up with house plan ideas, maybe she will see your post & give you some advice. Cost wise this should be minimal as you are simply moving things around so might just be extra pantry shelving (now that it's a corner pantry with 2 usable walls of shelving as oposed to 1) & an extra 500mm or so to fit your frg/frz in nicely. Personally i would level that wall up with oposite wall (internet room). Look forward to seeing how things progress. If you still want to allow light into this room you could have your wall openings facing into the dining area. Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 10Mar 13, 2010 9:58 pm What's the length of the kitchen wall where the oven will go? Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 12Mar 13, 2010 10:29 pm how about this, will this work. The only issue with putting the pantry by eating into internet room is, if we put pantry there, then the doors of the pantry will be always blocking the only pathway to access the rest of the house. how is this below. please comment. If you were to either move the holes in the study wall or cut them out completely it might feel a little better. If you like the pantry along that internet room wall, could you look at using sliding doors? Or possibly more doors so that the opening space for each door would be smaller, thus it wouldn't stick out so far into your pathway? I also think it is well worth considering changing your laundry to include storage on both sides of the walkway - standard benches (possibly overheads) on the wall with your machine, then thinner linen on the opposite wall. Makes a massive difference to storage ability within your home, and looks WOW! =) Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 15Mar 13, 2010 11:27 pm somewoman I think the corner pantry is better than the larger straight pantry in the same location - but only because lengthening your kitchen wall like that encloses the study "windows". Also have a broom cupboard in with them. SO much storage =))) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ we have a front loader washing machine, so have made the benchtop go the entire length of the wall. The far end with the weird panel in front is where we will put our cats kitty litter (in an attempt to block them from scattering it everywhere), but this space would have been more cupboards if we didn't have cats. The door to outside is glass to allow in natural light - it is also north facing so we could probably use this room to dry clothes in very easily from the heat generated from the northern sun (if we weren't fearful of having kitty litter scented clothing!!). Re: Design Help in increasing size of kitchen 19Mar 14, 2010 1:19 am very nice.
