Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: What are your views on overhead cupboards? 12Sep 25, 2007 1:20 pm Zoidberg I personally find them really annoying - they are either in my face when I'm trying to do something on the benchtop, or if they are high enough not to be then I can't effectively see what's in them! We are probably not going to have them, or maybe shallow ones. Most average height people dont have any problem axcessing overhead cabinets put in at 600 off the bench. Any lower than this they look stupid and would as you say be very annoying. I agree the top shelf can be a little hard to get to, but it looks far better to have a taller overhead and store less used items up there than having short overheads. Re: What are your views on overhead cupboards? 13Oct 02, 2007 11:32 pm It is really a matter of personal taste. I like the look of wall cabinets without bulkheads.
Have a look at these kitchen cabinet photos Re: What are your views on overhead cupboards? 14Oct 04, 2007 2:08 pm I think overhead cupboards are great for things that you don't want kids to grab, and are great for storing glasses. You can make then really nice by having glass doors and putting a downlight at the top. Great for people who have crystal, etc.
As for the cupboard above the rangehood..dont like them at all!! I think that they are dangerous when the stove is in use (yeah ok 'don't use them when it's in use'!!). I have had accidents getting spices, etc from my mums house out of this cupboard while i'm cooking!!! ok so maybe that's just me... ps. i think we would ALL love a butlers pantry! a bit of a luxury for your average jo-blo THEY HAVE FINISHED THE HOUSE AFTER NINE LONG MONTHS... BUT! The carpet is the wrong colour... Re: What are your views on overhead cupboards? 15Oct 04, 2007 4:42 pm I have added downlights to the underside of my cabinets allowing extra direct light for food preparation also!!
I like them for hiding the spices etc in too! Matt note: I dont cook I have reverted to username - mattwalker Carlisle Homes - Grande 43 My building experience is here: http://www.ourgrandeplan.blogspot.com Re: What are your views on overhead cupboards? 16Oct 09, 2007 6:21 pm Matt,
U hide your spices in your downlights? I love the idea of downlights under the cupboards. Lighting in the kitchen is super important. note: I wish I didnt have to cook, i get forced to on a regular basis! TIA 0 16606 That's a bit of a vague question. Either cupboard size is fine.
