Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 03, 2010 7:35 pm I've already designed my laundry, but I believe I am allowed to make very minor changes. What I have is a high linen press then trough, then wm, then dryer all on the bottom, then just overheads above. I went to a friends house the other day as she had a built in laundry hamper (her dryer is up on the wall - which I don't want to do due to venting issues) which I just love, so now trying to work out how I can incorporate it, I have no more room on the lower level. Any ideas would be most welcome. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 2Mar 04, 2010 12:00 am Hi, I'm looking to do our laundry which at the moment is just an empty room with a trough. My plan is to remove the trough put in cupboards from bunnings. The configuration (along one one wall) will be: 800mm cupboard, which will include the caroma metro ceramic tub, 600mm space for washing machine, 600 2 drawer unit, 400mm cupboard. Unfortunaltey the sink waste and tabs are at the end, and the WM in the middle of the wall. Most laundry designes these days have the wm at the end which is much more practical as it can accomodate front or top loaders. Luckily we have a front loader so it will be slotted in underneath the bench. Overheads above for approx 1200mm - this will allow room for a dryer to be hung if needed. Luckily in Perth we don't need dryers! (just undercover outdoor space!) I'm planning to use the two drawers as laundry hampers. We can drill some holes if required for ventilation. I looked at lots of different options but they all seemed not quite right. Options I considered: ~drawer options from proform, didn't seem to have sides, more expensive ~Ikea bins in drawers, not big enough ~use existing hampers inside cupboards, fiddly because you need to open the door and then still have enough room to chuck the clothes in, also wastes space because the hampers are usually not very deep, IYKWIM? I'm sorry the laundry is not in yet, so no pics. can you substitue anything in your configuration for some deep drawers? Something to note - I would reccomend getting the best rollers possible because you dont realise just how heavy clothes, wet towels etc can be. I had one in my old house that died very quickly because of the weight! I am having those as well in my laundry but was undecided if they should be pull outs or tilt?? Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 7Dec 22, 2010 9:00 am What do you mean by rollers, MissVintage? Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 8Dec 22, 2010 10:53 am I'd say she means the drawer rollers. Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 9Dec 22, 2010 1:22 pm WOW, that is awesome - can never have too much storage area in a laundry - something I grossly under-estimated, and wished I have more room... love those roll outs! Building on the Sunshine Coast - Land settled 22nd July 2009 Building contract finally signed (after much deliberation on our part) 11th November 2009 Building commences 25th January 2010 - small local builder End of June - almost completed fit out 26th July - MOVE IN DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 10Dec 22, 2010 10:55 pm We had one in our old house and I found that it was so deep/large it would hold a lot of clothes. So I had a centre partition put in mine, one side was for whites and lights the other for darks, made it so much easier to work out when I had enough for a full load of either rather than pulling everything out and sorting it before a wash. I'm doing the same again with our new laundry. Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 11Dec 23, 2010 9:11 am I have two the same as miss vintage. One for whites and one for colours A friend had a tilt one, but she had lots of problems with it. I have a miele washer and dryer which are stacked on top of each other. We also have an exhaust fan above which the builders put in for condensation, but our dryer is a condenser dryer so we don't really use it. Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 12Dec 26, 2010 7:15 pm Update from me - the two 600mm pot drawers are our landry hampers Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ they are great! the laundry is bunnings flatpack with an ikea benchtop. we have a full height landry cubpoard on the opposite wall behind the door. ETA: this is an old pic, the kick boards in stainlees steel have since been added, and the overhead cupboards will go up in the next couple of weeks, and blue will be pained over with Dulux limed white... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I was actually thinking that I might get some baskets to go inside- just to make it easier to reach the bottom and clean out etc. I hadn't thought of using something more like a "pot drawer style"- even though we have several "pot drawers" in the laundry for storage of towels and linen (more pics of my laundry in progress on my build thread) Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 15Jan 01, 2011 10:46 am We have a small bathroom with very limited space for a laundry hamper and as the bathroom backs onto the laundry we decided to make ours two way with access from both the bathroom and laundry. Funny, when I first saw this thread I thought - why would you want your laundry hampers in cupboards? Now, I'm thinking - why would you want your messy laundry baskets sitting out in the middle of the laundry floor! Thank you H1 - my house will now be so much tidier! Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 17Jan 01, 2011 2:09 pm fairy blue- I love your laundry hamper- What a clever idea (although the last picture of it not being used made me chuckle!) Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 18Jan 01, 2011 8:41 pm I have 3 laundry baskets sitting in the laundry looking very messy. Pot drawers...what a brilliant idea for my new house. Thanks heaps Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 19Jan 01, 2011 9:47 pm The kitchen/laundry maker our builder uses here suggested the two pot drawers as well, she said it makes it alot easier to get to the bottom/clean it out. Fairy Blue what a fantastic idea! Very clever. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Show me your built in laundry hamper, please 20Jan 02, 2011 9:33 am Miss fairy blue- I love your laundry hamper- What a clever idea (although the last picture of it not being used made me chuckle!) RaryGirl Fairy Blue what a fantastic idea! Very clever. Thanks girls, though I can't really take all the credit for it. It was something one of our neighbours had when I was a small child. They had a bench seat in their bathroom with a lift up lid and the clothes went into a drawer that was pulled out in the laundry. I remember thinking it was so cool. When I realised the bathroom was going to be small I borrowed the idea. Its a house idea I have had for about 30 years!
