Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 23, 2010 9:56 am Hello I'm just in the design stages of a new kitchen and I would appreciate any opinions on this: I'm thinking of buying a freezer which looks exactly like a bar fridge. You open the door just like a bar fridge (not a top lifiting lid) and there's four freezer drawers inside. Same size as a bar fridge. Naturally I thought I'd put it in the laundry. The cabinet maker said he could build it into the pantry if I didn't want to give up any space in the laundry. Question is: Will this generate enough heat to bother the food in the pantry? thanks Julie PS - thanks for all the invaluable info I've already gleaned from this site Re: Question about freezer placement 2Feb 23, 2010 11:44 am I assume you will still have a freezer as part of the fridge? If so, then I would put the second freezer in the laundry if there is room. If it is a freezer that you wouldn't go to regularly - then I'd keep the kitchen space for other things. If it is your only freezer, I would keep it in the kitchen. Cheers. Re: Question about freezer placement 3Feb 23, 2010 11:53 am Hi Whattodo Thanks for your input. Yes I am planning on a normal fridge/freezer in the kitchen. If I get a little freezer as well, I can buy a smaller fridge for the kitchen. The great big fridges are too big for my kitchen. What you say makes total sense. Decisions! decisions! Re: Question about freezer placement 4Feb 23, 2010 12:20 pm How big is your pantry? If it's a fairly standard one, heat from the freezer might be an issue... so might ventilation. If it's a big walk-in butler's pantry, then it'll probably be fine. Our second freezer is in the garage (just off the laundry) and since we normally go to it once a day, we haven't found it inconvenient. Re: Question about freezer placement 5Feb 23, 2010 12:37 pm I have one of those freezers in my bungalow. I probably go out there once a day - it doesn't bother me that it's not closer, and I would prefer the short walk than taking up pantry space. Can't help you with the heat issue ... sorry but I haven't noticed that my freezer generates much heat..... Just another point though - I think one of the freezers that you open from the top would be better than the one I have. Mine has drawers - they take up a fair bit of room and they also get stuck if any thing in their path gets too much ice on it, IYKWIM. Building on an acre in Macedon ......one day. Re: Question about freezer placement 6Feb 23, 2010 2:33 pm Thanks SO much peeps. I didn't really have a good feeling about the freezer in the pantry idea and after reading your thoughts I'm going off that idea fast. I think I'll come up with an alternative. This message board has already saved me from 563 traps and I think you've just done it again. cheers Julie PS love the shoes Kek Re: Question about freezer placement 7Feb 24, 2010 8:56 pm I've got a 1200mm high freezer in the garage and for a few minutes thought about putting it in the pantry of the new house until I remembered the heat given off during hot weather. One kitchen company I talked to suggested I put it in the kitchen, raised with a pot drawer underneath, but at the moment I'm leaning towards putting it in the garage again as has been mentioned above it's not as though I open it very often, the maximum would be twice in one day, usually only once though. Many years ago I had a chest freezer and would 'never' have one again, an upright with drawers (imho) is so much easier for many reasons. I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7531 Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room.
