Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 17, 2010 4:32 pm For our Reno house I bought a near new kitchen on Ebay that is almost exactly what we need . But , it has this huge green graite benchtop & splashback . I've got to remove it and would like to salvage as much as I can . So , any ideas or tips on how this can be done ? Would be a big hit to the budget if I can't remove it without damaging it . It appears to be in 1 piece , it's a U shape and covers an area of 2400 x 1950 x 2300 . Will need to trim it if I can remove it OK so any recommendations in the Hills Area of Sydney for that ? Re: Removing a Granite benchtop without damaging it? 2Feb 18, 2010 4:54 pm Would be in two pieces for sure most likely near the internal corner or sink, recut with a diamond blade where the join is and get a stone mason to reinstall Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Removing a Granite benchtop without damaging it? 3Feb 20, 2010 5:41 am Well , today my partner & I will be removing the kitchen . I've demolished a few over the years including the original in the Reno house so I have a good idea of what goes were & how so we should be pretty much OK . Will be cutting the benchtop at the sink . As there is a nice Granite splash back I've sharped a flat shovel to pop it off the wall and have a boot loaded with crowbars , hammers and tools of all kinds . Got a Granite specific diamond cutting blade for the 9" grinder so we should be OK . Had arranged for a builder mate to help but he's going to the cricket or something instead but we should be fine . Will pop up a post when it's done to tell how it went . Buying a 3 year old kitchen this way will be saving us about $8,000 which isn't too bad at all. Re: Removing a Granite benchtop without damaging it? 4Feb 20, 2010 5:59 am When cutting with grinder use a straight edge clamped to bench to get cut straight as possible, you could even clamp two pieces with gap wide enough for the blade. Good luck Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Removing a Granite benchtop without damaging it? 5Feb 21, 2010 6:50 am Turns out it isn'y possible. The installer used a mountain of glue & silicon . The center piece broke into 8 pieces , the left side into 2 and the big piece that I needed to cut down came out intact . So it's new benchtops . That gives me a chance to move the sink over 2 feet , the top cupboards over 100mm and such so some good in it all. 0 9826 This certainly doesn't look good.
