Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 15, 2010 9:20 am OMG. Ive just had a call from our SS who told me that the cabinet maker forgot to cut the hole for the power point in the side of the island bench. I told him "no he didnt, the powerpoint is in the BACK of the bench, the electricians can just cut through the wood. We dont want the power point in the stone as we dont want any holes cut in it" He went silent - then told me that the electrican had called him to say he had attempted to cut the hole himself but the stone is too thick (duh) and he was afraid if he kept going he would crack it.... Im so What do I do! We are supposed to be moving in on WEDNESDAY. I dont want a d.odgy repair job but can they replace a whole side of the bench??!! Teh tiles have already been laid around it and the tiler used every last one of the discontinued tiles. What an unnecessary stuff-up. Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 2Feb 15, 2010 9:30 am I'd be requesting a replacement After 4 years - we're in! Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 4Feb 15, 2010 9:42 am . Fernyhouse A replacement of both the stone and the tiles I think would be in order. yep. at the electrician or builders expense -- depending on whose fault it was - did SS instruct sparky incorrectly to install into stone? or did sparky not look at plan properly? either way, if they cant follow plan or the plan was not explained to them properly, its not your fault or problem. you paid for a brand new piece of stone, not one thats been hacked into and repaired "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Currently scaping the land. Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 5Feb 15, 2010 9:53 am Oh that is just terrible. Who's ever fault it is, they will need to fix the whole problem. You shouldnt have any problems if the plan specifies it should have been at the back. I know its more waiting but it should be done correctly and if the tiles need replacing as well then that should be done. Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 6Feb 15, 2010 3:50 pm I feel the frustration, EKT. So close, and then to have something so senseless happen. Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Sorry to read about that. I hope they fix it ASAP I must say I am not shocked at all. The electricians stuffed up at our place last week. The same questions pop up all the time. What's wrong with the tradespeople nowadays? They have a building plan why can't they just READ it properly !!!! Did you say the tiler has used ALL of the discontinued tiles!!!!!!! PCI Done Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 9Feb 15, 2010 8:38 pm Doesn't surprise me either. Unfortunately. They'll have to replace it, EKT. If extra tiles are needed, the supplier might just be able to track some down for you. Sometimes a warehouse or retail outlet has some stock left of discontinued lines.... Fingers crossed. Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 11Feb 15, 2010 10:33 pm OH. MY. GOD! I'd be throwing the biggest hissy-fit EVER. What's the point of plans and elevations if cowboy tradies just do whatever the hell they want? With the problem of discontinued tiles at the base, it makes replacement tricky, and time consuming. No doubt you just want to move in ASAP. I'd ask for a professional repair job on the stone first, with a provision that if you are unhappy with the result IN ANY WAY, then a replacement must be installed. Hopefully, they can track down more tiles, or remove/re-lay the existing ones without damaging them. Good luck. I really hope it works out. Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 12Feb 15, 2010 10:38 pm Jose27 What's wrong with the tradespeople nowadays? They have a building plan why can't they just READ it properly !!!! The poor old tradie. He is an easy target. More often than not it is a question of poor communication. Then again that isn't your responsibility. Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 13Feb 15, 2010 10:56 pm Oh this is not good at all! Get them to fix it. I feel your pain. Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 14Feb 15, 2010 11:11 pm I think you need to carefully consider how you would feel about a PP where they've started to cut the hole. Even if you would much prefer it wasn't there, could it be acceptable with compensation? If so, you need to know what compensation would be enough for you to feel OK about it. Because it could be that they will be willing to do more than you might expect to avoid replacing that stone edge, especially with the tile complications. Of course, if no compensation would suffice, you have every right to insist that the mistake is rectified. Also, if they can source some spare tiles with a bit of effort, this could save that issue biting you in the b*m down the track. Cheers and good luck zeke Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 15Feb 16, 2010 1:38 pm Fu Manchu Jose27 What's wrong with the tradespeople nowadays? They have a building plan why can't they just READ it properly !!!! The poor old tradie. He is an easy target. More often than not it is a question of poor communication. Then again that isn't your responsibility. He is an easy target when he does make a stuff up. Electrical plans are given to electricians aren't they!!!! Poor communication - how does that happen - surely you can't blame the customer for the poor communication !!! Maybe the SS started it with poor communication or maybe the tradie just didn't read the plan properly!!! Oh that's right - the customer is suppose to suffer in silence when a tradie stuffs up. Wear the stuff up what ever the outcome, I don't think so!!! These stuff just seems to happen too much Maybe it's all just human error!!!!! The poor old tradie. He is an easy target. More often than not it is a question of poor communication. Then again that isn't your responsibility. Poor old tradie my behind, as a tradie I can tell you that all tradies have a responsibility to the quality of work but that seems to have gone out the window these days. I personally think that some tradies are brain dead with some of the crap Ive seen. Or have people forgot how to think! Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 17Feb 17, 2010 1:32 pm Just to update. It was definately clear on the plan so it was just a stuff up on the tradies part. The SS went straight around there and finished cutting the hole himself and they installed the power point. Im a bit upset (hubby even more so) because we didnt want a power point on the side of the bench but hubby and I (after much discussion) have decided thats its something we can live with. The SS has been good to us throughout the build, the electrician was a young guy and was very embarrassed by it. This build has been a nightmare from start to finish and we are both at a point now where the smaller things are just going to be let go so the bigger things can be fixed - "picking our battles" so to speak. Good news is - council inspection tomorrow - handover Friday! Thank you all for your sympathy and advice!! Re: They ruined my stone!!!! 20Feb 17, 2010 4:33 pm Seriously this is nothing to get really excited about. He stuffed up, it's simple. He'll pay to fix it. Some people here are funny "I'd throw the biggest hissy fit EVER" wow lol, make yourself look like a douch and go right ahead, blow your top over a simple mistake. I just hope that in whatever line of work you do, you never make a mistake that costs the company money, otherwise I would love to hear your sob stories then of how the cruel boss spoke to you in a totally uncivilised way due to the mistake that you made, accident or not. Oh no, no not me no never a mistake here, accidents never happen to me I'm sure I copied down the correct email address, I'M PERFECT. Maybe if you had a sick child in hospital or something it would put everything into perspective for you. Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13771 Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size.
