Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 11, 2010 7:21 pm Hi, We are getting blackbutt overlay flooring in our Family/ meals and kitchen areas. Unsure what colours will suit in our Laminate kitchen with the blackbutt flooring, we originally had chosen white cupboards with a dark grey/blackish benchtop. Now I am thinking this will be to dark with the light coloured floor. We were thinking of maybe changing to a light speckled benchtop. If you have blackbutt flooring can you show me you kitchen colour scheme with your flooring, to give me some ideas. Attached is the kitchen benchtop I am unsure about. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/zz20/JJ305_2005/deepstarslate-kitchenbench.jpg Sorry about the poor quality Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 2Feb 14, 2010 2:35 am http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh43/jacck/IMGP0040-1.jpg?t=1266078692 Here is my kitchen with blackbutt flooring You cant see it clearly, but I also have a walnut veneer backing to the kitchen bar area. I will try and get a better pic of the flooring and kitchen... Mrs B Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 4Feb 14, 2010 12:20 pm I think Mrs B benchtop was granite "Bianco Romano". Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 5Feb 14, 2010 7:11 pm *sigh* Mrs B's kitchen always makes me go Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 6Feb 14, 2010 7:16 pm mckelvie I think Mrs B benchtop was granite "Bianco Romano". Thats correct mckelvie It was my biggest 'bling' for the house and even the builder tried to talk me out of it as it was way past his allowance So nice to have a builder who cared what i spent Mrs B Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 7Feb 14, 2010 7:28 pm Just love it Mrs B! What is the recess detail under the granite? Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 8Feb 14, 2010 9:04 pm Hammerhead Just love it Mrs B! What is the recess detail under the granite? Its a stainless steel strip that goes between the granite and cabinetry...its right around the kitchen. I saw it in another kitchen in that Trends magazine and always kept it in my file for when I did my own Mrs B Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 9Feb 15, 2010 7:35 pm mrs B , we must have gone through the list of timbers in the whole world and finally settled or not so settled on either blackbutt or tallowwood. we are going for parquetry flooring ,the installer mentioned that tallowwood is more of oaky texture where as blackbutt is more uniform. what made you decide on blackbutt ? we have a red splash back with white cupboards and grey with a tinge of white as the kitchen benches and black caesorstone bench top. I did not want the floor to dominate the house as we have a very large area that is flooring. I really like the colour of blackbutt and everything about it. Also, before I lived in a rental I had my heart set on spotted gum. Our rental had spotted gum and I could not live with all the different variations in colour, my eyes kept being drawn down to the different textures of the floor and after a while I grew to loath it....strange I know as spotted gum most people love and it is beautiful but visually to me it was over whelming. So, that was the thought process that went into picking blackbutt I must admit I wanted the wide oak planks originally but the price was going to be Mrs B Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 12Feb 17, 2010 4:51 pm Hi JJ305 I managed to take a better picture today of the blackbutt flooring and Kitchen. Our finish as you can see in the pic was just a satin coating (i think thats what they called it) I just wanted a flooring that would blend with the house not take over as the area is too large for feature flooring IMHO http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh43/jacck/IMGP0294-1.jpg Mrs B Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 14Feb 17, 2010 8:44 pm Mrs B Hi JJ305 I managed to take a better picture today of the blackbutt flooring and Kitchen. Re: Kitchen colours & Blackbutt flooring 15Feb 17, 2010 8:50 pm mrs B,thanks for that . That picture looks better, the blackbutt floors I have seen the finish is more lighter than yours . What sort of polish was it ? is it a solvent based polyutherene ? We are going for a semigloss finish in solvent based polyutherene 3 coats on parquetry ,hope it looks as good as yours. I presume the boards were laid on a slab ,what did they use as a underlay ? or was it direct stick with a moisture barrier. finally who was the installer? apologise for all the questions we are very concerned about the floor ,its a one off!! Hi Andy and JJ305 Would you believe I have forgotten all the technical jargon about my floors but I will ask Mr B. We have a slab but I know they used a process to lay the boards and had a moisture barrier I think will have to get back to you. It is in a Satin finish ...maybe one of the guys in the floor forum can tell you what that means as I just said to the builder I wanted a nice sheen to it but not gloss. I am not much help am I I just told the builder what i wanted and that was it basically. I understand how you feel Andy as the floor is probably the main feature of a home and its so important to get right. Mrs B 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6174 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15887 Hi there, I'm a conplete newbie to this, but I'm looking to put a floor down in my 6x9m shed. It's currently sitting on a 100mm thick concrete perimeter (dirt floor… 0 6454 |
